Introducing EnergiVault


Organic Heat Exchangers' cooling process claims savings of up to 80% on existing technologies. On top of that, due to the additional cooling capacity, it can also act as a demand side battery giving datacentres and other cooling systems the ability to choose when they buy power and providing them with an uninterruptible cooling system (UCS). Founder Bob Long explains.

ssential energy comes basically in two forms: Q Thermal energy – the power to heat and/or cool


Q Electrical energy – the power to drive mechanical and illuminative devices.


Clearly the highest flexibility comes from electrical energy storage with many conversion technologies in existence such as electric heaters, electric tools, electric cars, electric lights and more. But is storing electricity the most efficient storage option if your primary needs are temperature related? We have developed thermal storage system


EnergiVault, powered by 'O-Hx' technology. The O-Hx technology is used to separate ice spheres with an organic nanotech wrapper. This results in an increase of surface area / volume ratio of around 500 times that of a large ice block and an outstanding increase in cooling speed, cooling power and cooling efficiency. We estimate that this should lead to a reduction of cooling costs of between 60-70%. Because Energivault adds around 5000 litres of cooling capacity to a 100 litre system, the system can be configured to work without power for days, providing much needed


flexibility to energy intensive applications and allowing participants to charge the Energivault when electricity prices are low or perhaps even negative such as on a windy night. Combining increases in efficiency with


prudent power buying provides estimated savings of up to 80% overall. Thermal energy storage with EnergiVault, is ready to store not just megawatts or gigawatts, but 'any-watts' of energy efficiently, cheaply and flexibly.


The amount of energy used to keep things cool in warm places such as Dubai, Nevada, Arizona, Darwin and Queensland is over 80% of all the energy produced. Clearly, if hotter regions are to take Prince Charles’ challenge at the COP26 seriously, they need a way of turning many acres of anticipated solar arrays into night-time cooling for applications such as industry, hotels, airports, and shopping malls to be truly carbon free – and without the necessity for high capacity 'electrical batteries' at huge cost. EnergiVault is a ready-to-use solution with


unlimited potential which can assist in the reduction of CO2


in the atmosphere to 350 parts


per million – the highest recommended level to promote a stable climate. While electrical battery technology goes


through ongoing development stages, problems, breakthroughs, setbacks and victories, the EnergiVault dynamic cool banking system is ready to start changing the way we think about energy management. Of note, it is retrofittable to data centres and most cooling systems. The application of Energivault around the world will potentially lead to significant reductions in green house gas emissions and could have a large part to play in balancing the grid, especially in hot countries which are still heavily reliant on fossil fuels. Now backed by environmental investment facilitator 350 PPM, we are planning capital raisings in early 2022 with a view to commercialise our technologies in the UK and worldwide. Managing director of 350PPM Nicholas Dimmock said: “We are obviously very happy to be working with Organic Heat Exchangers.
