Editor’s note D
People, policy and progress
E&I (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) is under pressure; some companies are cutting back, citing legal and political concerns. Others are staying the course, seeing DE&I as essential to
business success and not just a trend. Research shows that diverse teams oſt en perform better, but putting that into practice is still a challenge.
At Climalife, Laura McKeown has helped drive change from within. Her focus on
allyship has shaped a more inclusive company culture, showing how small, consistent actions can make a real diff erence. Stephanie Reiss from Orbia Fluor & Energy Materials shares her path from academia
to the cooling industry. Her story highlights the importance of resilience and the need for more support for women in technical roles. Regulations also remain a key concern. Stephen Benton of Cool Concerns explains
the EU Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) and the UK’s Pressure Equipment (Safety) Regulations (PE(S)R), helping contractors understand what’s required during design and installation, while Steve Molloy from Daikin clears up common misunderstandings about the updated regulation (EU) 2024/573, which came into force in March. Finally, Chris Ferriday from Atlas Copco looks at how SEPR (Seasonal Energy
Performance Ratio) is changing how we measure energy effi ciency in process cooling. I hope you fi nd this issue informative and interesting.
