Energy Saving Trust aiming to demystify appliance energy use
news T
he Energy Saving Trust has unveiled its new independent advice website,
www.ToptenUK.org, which aims to provide consumers with an impartial list of the country’s most efficient household appliances. Taking over the website, the Energy Saving
Trust hopes the guide will be invaluable to consumers looking to cut their energy bills while upgrading appliances in the living room, kitchen or lighting. As well as providing an at-a-glance guide to the best rated products
for different areas of the home, detailed information can be found on energy consumption figures, operational noise and cost. Energy Saving Trust head of products Dr Fanoula Ziouzia said:
“
ToptenUK.org has been designed for ease; displaying all the relevant information you need in a friendly, easy to digest format. “This wouldn’t be useful if it wasn’t current though, so we make sure the lists are updated every six months to ensure what you’re seeing is the most up to date information. That includes annual running cost, upfront purchase cost, dimensions and special functionality, where available.” The website covers appliances for almost every area of the house, including televisions, refrigeration, ovens, kitchen hoods and lighting. Dishwashers, washing machines, tumble dryers and vacuum cleaners are also covered by the website. Dr Ziouzia said: “We do find that energy efficiency is increasingly
recognised by consumers as an important factor to their purchasing decisions – and manufacturers are waking up to this too. Advances in technology mean televisions are less power hungry than ever, many washing machines are now rated in the most efficient A+++ bracket, and even efficient tumble dryers are more affordable. “Finding this information on retailers’ websites isn’t always easy, but
ToptenUK.org takes the guesswork out of finding the best products for your budget.”
AMDEA announces ‘prize season’ at Register My Appliance
F
rom Tuesday November 1,
many appliance manufacturers will be rewarding those customers who register their appliances by entering them into free prize draws, industry body AMDEA has announced. Registering new machines or simply ones that they already
own on
www.registermyappliance.org.uk will provide the chance to win a range of home and lifestyle prizes. This prize bonanza, from participating brands, will run through January to include Register My Appliance Day on January 19 2017, which will be celebrated with further opportunities to win gifts and ensure home safety.
www.registermyappliance.org.uk is the Association of
Manufacturers of Domestic Appliance’s (AMDEA) online safety initiative, supported by the Government and local Fire Services, which provides quick access to the registration pages of over 60 brands of domestic appliances and allows the public to register old (up to 12 years) and new appliances. Once registered, in the event that there is a safety action, the manufacturer will know where to find the appliance and organise the right remedy. With no purchase necessary, the industry is urging all appliance owners to look around their kitchens and simply spend a few minutes getting their trusty, older machines registered to instantly improve the safety of their home and be in with a chance of a big win.
