TRIAC-Dimmable LYTSwitch-7 LED Driver ICs from
Power Integrations cut BOM count by 40% Bleeder-less, highly efficient, robust IC family serves bulbs, tubes and fixtures up to 22 W
Power Integrations (Nasdaq: POWI), the leader in high-efficiency, high-reliability LED driver ICs, today announced its LYTSwitch™-7 single-stage, non- isolated, TRIAC-dimmable, buck topology LED driver IC family. Capable of delivering up to 22 watts without a heatsink in a very small SO-8 footprint, these high-efficiency devices are suitable for bulbs, tubes and fixtures. LYTSwitch-7 designs do not require bleeders; employing simple, passive damping for TRIAC management and an off-the- shelf, single-winding inductor, reducing component count to just 20, as compared to approximately 35 parts for typical dimmable LED driver boards.
LYTSwitch-7 ICs deliver a phase-cut (TRIAC) dimming solution with a wide dimming range and monotonic dimming response. The LED drivers enable efficiency of greater than 86% - around 2% higher than conventional dimmable products – with high PF, accurate regulation and comprehensive protection. They suit low- or high-line input as well as wide-range universal-input designs for U.S. commercial lighting applications, which operate from 90 VAC to 305 VAC with TRIAC dimming enabled in low-line installations.

High current and high voltage MOSFET relays
added by Omron New high capacity MOSFET relays from Omron Electronic Components Europe support AC and DC loads of up to 5A or 600V. The relays are ideal for industrial and factory automation applications including machine tools, robots and inverters, as well as test and measurement equipment and security systems.
The new MOSFET relays include the G3VM-61CR1/61FR1, capable of handling 5A AC or DC at 60V, increasing to 10A DC when a double current connection configuration for DC loads is used. New high voltage devices, the G3VM-
401CR/401FR and G3VM-601CR/601FR, have also been added, which support 0.4A at 400V and 0.6A at 600V AC or DC respectively. Again, the maximum DC current load can be doubled to 0.8A and 1.2A respectively using the appropriate connection configuration.
Key features include fast turn on and turn off times - less than half that of popular alternatives.

High-performance USB Type-C connectors set new
market standards Global Connector Technology (GCT) has introduced a range of high-performance USB Type-C connectors that sets new market standards in design flexibility, transfer speed, power and usability. Designed for mobile and smart devices, the USB Type-C connector is ready for next gen applications delivering speeds up to 10Gb/s for data transfer, audio and video connectivity, supporting HDMi, DisplayPort and VGA.
The connector also supports USB Power Delivery standards of charging capability, with rapid charging up to 100W.
Together with these capabilities comes easier usability:
the new reversible plug design allows the cable to be plugged upside down making it a more user- friendly interface solution for consumers.
GCT’s range of five products includes both horizontal and vertical USB type C receptacles. Horizontal receptacles are available in a hybrid of thru hole and SMT, allowing superior co-planarity and facility for inspection after processing. Top mount, mid mount versions are available in short and long body types.
GCT’s drawn metal shell design for horizontal parts provides superior Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) shielding compared to stamped sheet metal housings. The enhanced mechanical strength of the shell structure also makes GCT’s USB Type-C connectors suitable for the automotive, industrial, medical and instrumentation markets.

PCB fork plugs from Multi-Contact for rugged
slide-in modules A fork plug for printed circuit boards has been custom designed by Multi-Contact. The lightweight but rugged connector can be used with power electronics modules such as inverters so that they can be quickly slid in and out of racks during maintenance.
Developed in collaboration with a manufacturer of traction converters for use in the rail industry, the compact plug saves space, and enables modules to be swapped out quickly and reliably, without the need for special tools.
The vibration-resistant plug can be used in temperatures ranging from -55degC to +125degC. Its outstanding electrical and mechanical performance is due to the use of MULTILAM technology, a proprietary contact system from Multi-Contact that uses torsion spring contact elements to produce multiple contact points and ensure high reliability and low contact resistance.
Multi-Contact also produces fork plugs for busbars, either custom designed or in standard versions with widths from 25 to 100 mm suitable for busbar thicknesses from 5 to 10 mm. Examples of custom applications include a special fork connector for liquid cooled devices for traction and drive applications, and a fork plug rotating contact for a ship's steering gear.
