Advertorials RDS & ATP protecting SSD data integrity Omron LED control IC provides ultra-smooth fade
A new LED matrix control IC launched by Omron Electronic Components Europe supports a smooth fade-in and fade-out of LED brightness, so that the transition is undetectable to the human eye at any point.
RDS are now supplying ATP’s advanced hardware and firmware-based power failure protection system which helps to ensure SSD data integrity after sudden power outages.
ATP’s first line of defence against data loss is a low power detector built into the SSD. When the low power detector is triggered, a safe power-down algorithm is executed to help prevent any data loss and ensure the data integrity.
No user intervention is required as ATP products are integrated in the storage device and is therefore always ready to protect data. So, whatever the cause of the power loss whether it be power outage, brownout, power supply failure, battery loss or even inadvertent disengagement of a live drive – ATP products will be on duty.
Now there is no need to worry about your data, contact RDS today on +44 (0)1 959 563345 or go to

congatec presents its first SMARC 2.0 module
Brand new form factor with brand new low-power processors congatec, a leading technology company for embedded computer modules, single board computers and embedded design and manufacturing services, today announced its first credit card sized modules for the new SMARC 2.0 specification. They are based on the brand new 14nm Intel® Atom™, Celeron®
and Pentium® processors (code
name Apollo Lake) also launched today. The new conga-SA5 Computer-on-Modules not only set new standards in terms of low- power processor performance, but also
impress with pre-integrated on board wireless interfaces for IoT connectivity. This is unique for Computer-on-Modules. Also unique is the improved and particularly rich feature set of the new SMARC 2.0 specification, which offers major advancements in technology and performance so that SMARC 2.0 will soon replace previous SMARC 1.1 designs. Developers and OEMs benefit from a completely new module standard with more pre-integrated functionalities making carrier board design considerably easier and more efficient.
In the near future congatec will also be launching the first SMARC 2.0 starter kits. Since the edition will be limited, it is advised to pre-order now. Free revision checks for existing SMARC 1.1 carrier board designs can also be ordered now.

Aimed at LED arrays in signage, backlights and other applications, the new Omron W2RG012RN can control the brightness of up to 128 individual LEDs with just one IC. Its key feature is that it controls brightness using a PWM function, increasing the brightness gradually, and increasing the rate of change exponentially as the light output increases. Since the human eye is more sensitive to dimmer light, this gives the impression of a completely smooth and even change in brightness, with no perceptible steps
or flickering. Conventional luminance control is in even steps which appear uneven to the eye due to its variable response to brightness.
The new Omron LED control IC is controlled through a serial bus connection, which allows up to 15 ICs to be connected on the same communication line. The 24 constant current outputs deliver a maximum current of 80mA per pin. They can be configured to support arrays of 16 x 8, 24 x 4, 24 x 2 or 24 x 1 LEDs. The brightness of each individual LED can be greater with the smaller arrays. The device is just 7mm x 7mm in size and features a built-in thermal shut-down.

u-blox integrated antenna GNSS Receiver
eases embedded designs u-blox’s new ultra-compact SAM- M8Q GNSS module speeds time to market for system developers of GNSS applications who have limited experience in RF and antenna design. Equipped with an integrated antenna, SAM-M8Q is housed in a tiny 15.5 x 15.5 x 6.3 mm package. It can easily be embedded in small devices that require location information, such as asset tracking and telematics systems, and generic automotive after-market applications.
The combination of an integrated wide-band antenna along with the module’s SAW filter and low- noise amplifier (LNA) architecture ensures that the SAM-M8Q receiver delivers robust performance in the presence of high frequency signals from other electronic equipment, such as cellular modems, which can cause interference. By using the latest u-blox M8 multi-GNSS receiver technology, the module is able to offer simultaneous reception of GPS, GLONASS, and Galileo satellite signals.
The modules will be in full production in mid-February 2017.
