11,025 visitors from during the four days of the Show. According to the fashion ‘gurus’ from Expo Riva, for
Spring/Summer 2017, women’s footwear will be enhanced with metallic highlights and will see a return to a new style ethnic look. For men, a more formal look will prevail, but revisited with a relaxed approach, so we can look forward to seeing classic lace-ups, but in natural materials. Lots of denim for children with fringes and tassels in styles that aspire to grown-up fashion.”
Talking about trade shows, are you attending Moda this Year?
Exhibitions also offer a rare opportunity to meet with brand owners, designers and directors - to discuss key business challenges with the people who make the final decisions. If used properly the exhibition stand can provide valuable neutral ground on which to discuss collections, plan promotions and agree a special deal.
The Society of Shoe Fitters, in conjunction with the Healthy
Footwear Guide group, has been working hard on its first ever conference on shoe fitting. Everything has now been arranged and the conference which is entitled “Fit not Frumpy: How shoe fitting can benefit everyone” will take place on 19th September at the University of Northampton.
Tickets for this event are now available via the following link:
https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/fit-not-frumpy-how-shoe-fitting-can- benefit-everyone-tickets-25259811777. The cost of tickets which includes access to all presentations, trade stand area, refreshments and a light lunch is £50 (full delegates), £35 (students). The event will provide an opportunity to learn about different perspectives on shoe fitting, to find out about new research relevant to shoe fitting and to meet people from other backgrounds (e.g. health care, the research community) who share a common interest in footwear and good shoe fitting.
I hope that as many members as possible will be able to attend
the event, which it is anticipated, will not only be educational, but also enjoyable and will lead to attendees making new contacts and friendships. This magazine supports Shoe Fitting and the work of the Society of Shoe Fitters. Remember, as far as shoe fitting is concerned, if we don’t use it, we will lose it - and the health of the Nation will suffer as a consequence.
Having suffered from foot problems myself, including, bunions,
sciatica and migraine (largely caused by wearing ill-fitting footwear in my youth), I can vouch for the importance of shoe fitting and expect that many other 'baby boomers' from the Sixties generation who now make up the bulk of our population, can do likewise!
Kind regards, Cheryl
