TECHNOLOGY IN ACTION ADVERTORIAL

HBM announces webinar week dedicated to QuantumX

Goss Springs and the military

N

ick and Dan Goss are the first to acknowledge that they run “a tight ship” in the sense that the design and manufacturing processes are rigidly documented and controlled and subject to check after check in order to be sure that the product delivered meets the customer requirement. Goss Springs and the military go back a long way. Rigorous attention to detail, a disciplined approach to the design and manufacturing process all make Goss Springs and high tech military and aerospace applications perfect partners.

Consider the demands of a specialist military or aerospace application.

Here it is quite likely that

the product has to work once only, but be absolutely sure that it will work, even though it has been dormant for a long period of use before operation . The point being illustrated here is that Goss Springs are quite unique in their capability of designing and manufacturing a wide range of highly engineered pressed or wired components for virtually any application.

BM – a market leader in the field of test and measurement – is pleased to announce the dates for its dedicated webinar week on QuantumX data acquisition systems, which takes place 17th – 20th May 2016. Being held over 4 days, each hour long webinar has been designed to fit in with challenging time constraints which can often make attending relevant training courses difficult, and will provide valuable information on QuantumX, the leading data acquisition system, from HBM. The QuantumX dedicated webinar week starts with ‘Minimising the Measurement Uncertainty of

H

your Force Measurement Chain’, which will look at what factors impact measurement uncertainty on force measurement chains. It will also explain what characteristics have a particularly high influence and how to enhance the measuring chains accuracy.

Measuring temperature was never so cool T

he TN temperature sensor from ifm electronic With a wide temperature range and fast response the TN temperature sensor from ifm electronic is the best in its class and simple to use, on liquids or gases.

The TN is a

complete temperature switch with a fixed probe. Naturally the TN features IO- Link for immediate Industry 4.0 integration.

With a range from -50 to 150°C, freely scalable, the TN is ideal for most industrial processes, and can react as fast as one second (T05).

The

pushbutton setting is intuitive and the display versatile. Showing four digits in red or green as well as the yellow output LED, the display is easy to read and can be seen from all angles by rotating the head. In addition, the user can select when and how the colour changes to show a switching status change or to highlight a particular range of temperatures Outputs are available as single switch and analogue, or two switch points, depending on the version chosen.

The TN recognises signal polarity

automatically and switches PNP or NPN as required.. u 020 8213-0000

Dawson Shanahan boosts capacity with half a million pound investment

D

awson Shanahan, the world’s leading specialist in precision cold forming and machining, has met the growing demand for its precision engineering services by boosting capacity with an investment in machinery of almost half a million pounds.

The Welshpool-based company has invested in three new machines, each of which provide different functionality. This includes a new TRAUB turning machine, which has been purchased following the win of a large new contract with a major automotive manufacturer. This advanced technology delivers excellent precision and efficiency and will enable Dawson Shanahan to optimise cycle times and increase capacity.

Dawson Shanahan has also added a fully refurbished Cincinnati Milacron OMP40 centreless production grinding cell for precision grinding of automotive brake pistons and a new XYZ milling machine. These high performance machines will bring extra capacity and speed, helping to ensure orders are on time and to the high standards Dawson Shanahan is renowned for.

Commenting on the investment, Les Reeves, Joint Managing Director at Dawson Shanahan explained: “Continual investment in new machinery is a cornerstone of the Dawson Shanahan philosophy. It enables us to consistently meet our customers’ wide range of needs. The three new machines have boosted our capacity, are ensuring quicker turnaround and enabled us to offer an even more customisable and flexible service.” The purchasing of these three new machines follows investment earlier in the year, at which time Dawson Shanahan purchased two new Locatelli Meccanica hydraulic CNC presses to enhance its impressive precision cold forming capability still further.

available with measurement ranges of ±50g and ±100g designed for dynamic vibration measurements. Full scale signal output is ±5V for both ranges. Applications include automotive NVH and durability, space and aerospace vehicle testing and subsystem vibration testing. The Kistler ceramic shear element technology ensures high immunity to base strain and the low mass, 6 gram, minimises any effect on the item under test. The welded titanium through hole fixing housing is hermetically sealed and M4.5 and ¼-28 miniature 4 pin connector options allow 360° cable orientation for maximum installation flexibility. The IEPE (Integrated Electronics Piezoelectric) design with the TEDS (Transducer Electronic Data sheet) option delivers small size, light weight, robustness and low cabling costs whilst the aluminium anodized base ensures ground isolation from mounting surfaces.
