Anritsu’s newest WLAN test set is first to support IEEE802.11ac standard
Anritsu Corporation has released the new wireless connectivity test set MT8862A, an integrated one-box test set specifically for testing 802.11 WLAN devices. With built-in communications protocols, the MT8862A measures the performance of the WLAN devices in the actual operating state, and is the first test equipment of its kind to support all IEEE802.11ac/n/a/g/b standards. The rapid expansion of the Internet of Things has
meant that the use of WLAN technology is no longer just limited to mobile devices such as smartphones. It is now being used in a wide range of IoT applications.

...transient events which may last only microseconds, but it is also able to carry out complete power-train endurance tests over periods up to 200 days. These flexible, modular instruments
offer channel isolation, signal conditioning, and high channel counts. Moreover, for automotive applications, dedicated vehicle versions are available which incorporate a bus monitoring function, allowing the user to decode the CAN, or other bus signals, and monitor physical data transmitted in the power train management system (Fig.1). Although a ScopeCorder looks like an
oscilloscope and can be ‘driven’ like one, it has certain significant differences. Notably a ScopeCorder has vastly more memory on board, allowing it to capture much more data. The isolated inputs are very important for electrical based measurements, plus it also includes high resolution (16-bit) inputs and high common-mode capability. It is also possible to set oscilloscope-
style trigger conditions on most of the measured or calculated signals, such as active power. This feature makes the ScopeCorder particularly powerful for on- the-spot dynamic testing and analysis. The measurement results, and calculated signals, can be viewed and monitored continually during the measurement as the test cycle progresses. In addition, by transferring the measurement results to an analysis software package, a user can carry out more extensive verification and analysis of the corresponding raw data after the measurement is done. A plug-in modular design makes these instruments easy to expand and configure to meet different application requirements, with recent additions including a 4-channel measurement module and support for newer automotive related serial buses like SENT.
MULTI-CHANNEL OSCILLOSCOPES Another class of product that has evolved to meet the particularly demanding requirements of modern electrical

systems is the general-purpose oscilloscope, where multi-channel capabilities have greatly extended the range of applications. For measurements on 3-phase power systems, for example, an 8-channel oscilloscope allows the user to carry out simultaneous measurements on three voltage and three currents, and then derive the power parameters for 3- phase power analysis. In addition, in automotive environments, a multi- channel oscilloscope makes it possible to carry out physical layer bus analysis. Unlike the ScopeCorder, which essentially has a serial bus node built into it and acts as a monitor for those signals, the oscilloscope is basically probing the bus itself and then decoding the waveforms to see the content of the messages. The latest development in this area is
the addition of SENT and PSI5 (Peripheral Sensor Interface 5) bus support to these multi-channel oscilloscopes.
PRECISION POWER ANALYSERS For tests requiring the highest levels of precision and accuracy, the instrument of choice is the power analyser (Fig.2), offering high precision, high accuracy, high stability, and the ability to carry out calibrated measurements. Although originally designed as stand-alone instruments, they are increasingly being equipped with interfaces, application software and automated capabilities for use in integrated test benches – particularly in the automotive sector. The guaranteed accuracy and precision of Yokogawa’s instruments results from the fact that Yokogawa has its own European standards laboratory at its European headquarters in The Netherlands. This facility is the only non-government organisation in the world to offer accredited power calibration, at frequencies up to 100kHz. ISO 17025 accreditation demonstrates the competence of the laboratory.
