NIPPON EXPRESS CHOOSES A REPEAT PERFORMANCE BY AIRBRIDGECARGO TO SUPPORT THE MOTUL FIM SUPERBIKE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Nippon Express helped the 2017 MOTUL FIM Superbike World Championship get off to the perfect start with a timely delivery by AirBridgeCargo Airlines (ABC).
The two companies joined forces to transport all of the teams’ motorbikes, spares and other equipment onboard a Boeing 747-8F freighter from Barcelona, Spain. The 103 tonnes of cargo was delivered to Melbourne’s Avalon Airport

as preparations got under way for the first race of the season at the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit on 26 February, the first of 13 races in 2017.
The bikes were transported in flight cases and were joined onboard the AirBridgeCargo flight by two pace cars.
This delivery is a repeat of the Nippon Express and ABC partnership last year which saw the airline move the Superbike racing teams from Bangkok to Barcelona last March and from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur and from Malaysia to the UK’s East Midlands Airport in May. Overall, Nippon Express has worked with AirBridgeCargo to ensure the timely delivery of some 430 tonnes of cargo in support of the world championships in 2016/17.
This year, the 14 Superbike teams will compete in events in Australia, Thailand, Spain, the Netherlands, Italy, the UK, United States, Germany, Portugal, France and Qatar.
Eric Lamare, ABC’s Area Sales Manager for France, Spain and Portugal, said: “Global events like this require a finely- tuned logistics programme as there are only short time windows between races and the teams need to arrive in good time to complete their preparations. Having worked closely with Nippon Express in 2016, it is a strong endorsement of the quality of service we provided that they have chosen ABC again to support the 2017 world championships. We hope to operate more flights later in the year.”
Alberto López, Nippon Express Aircargo Manager, stated: “We partnered with ABC once again. Their flexibility and extensive fleet, together with a proper understanding of our needs and expectations, made the difference this time. The Boeing 747-800F suits us perfectly for these operations and we feel positive in building our success in this partnership to meet future challenges from our clients.”
