INDUSTRY PROFESSIONAL MEMBERSHIP ABOUT MHC’S
Created in 2016, Fair Hill Foundation’s mission is to
raise funds to support the entities that use the Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area in Elkton. FHF’s ini- tial project was to raise $20 million through a public-pri- vate partnership for the new Equine Event Zone at Fair Hill. This project, supported by the State of Maryland, re- cently hosted the inaugural Maryland 5 Star at Fair Hill in
October 2021. The Equine Event Zone includes an expanded turf track, multiple all-purpose rings, and a world-class cross-country course. Polly Binns and Barbara Heck lead the ongoing “Proud Past • Infi nite
Future: The Campaign for Fair Hill.” Binns served on the FHF board be- fore moving into the role of Executive Director in 2019. Heck, who runs the Heck-Company consulting group, is the Capital Campaign fund- raising consultant and joined the team in 2018. Charles C. “Charlie” Fenwick, Jr., is the current FHF Board president.
The Montgomery Soil
Conservation District (MSCD) is a political sub- division of the State with over 75 years of service to agricultural operations in Maryland. Due to Mont- gomery County’s exten- sive, diverse, and robust equine industry, Mont-
gomery County is one of the few of Soil Conservation Districts with a dedicated Equine Conservationist. MSCD’s Equine Conservationist, Travis Gorleski, has historically held an individual membership with the Maryland Horse Council. MSCD’s Equine program provides free consultation and technical resources to Montgomery County equine businesses to help them protect and enhance natural resources on the lands dedicated to caring for their horses. MSCD’s Equine Program also connects these businesses with regional partners and cost-sharing programs to help them make environmentally-friendly infrastructure a sustainable component of their business models.
