The Equiery’s 2020 Stallion Line Up As we head into a new decade where the

world seems ever expanding and national young horse programs are dominated by imports, T e Equiery conducted a survey to produce a Maryland stallion count for the 2020 breed- ing season. What we found proves what we’ve always known… Maryland is the state for horses. Whether your goals are to represent the U.S. at an Olympic Games in dressage, win the National Reining Horse As- sociation World Championship title or fi nd yourself in the winner’s circle of a Triple Crown Race, the stallions you are looking for are right here in Maryland! We have T or-

oughbreds and Stan- dardbreds and Quarter Horses and Andalusions. Percherons, Irish Sport Horses, Morgans and Welsh Ponies. Warmbloods of nearly every kind and even rare breeds such as the Cleveland Bay. T ese Maryland stallions have produced top

show hunters, world-class trotters, halter hors- es, eventers, trail class winners, barrel runners and all-around family horses and ponies. Furthermore, Maryland’s foundation lines

have spread outside its borders and have hit the international stage in several disciplines. Shared on these pages are just a few of these amazing stallions and their accomplishments. Statistics presented here are gathered from our survey, stallion websites, Equiery archives, the Maryland Horse Industry Board and lots of

phone calls! Please note, these statistics may have missed a

few stallions here and there as not everyone we reached out to responded in time for prepar- ing this issue for print. If your stallion was not “counted,” please call or email T e Equiery’s editor at 443-537-6754 or edi- tor@equiery.com.

Stallion Numbers After boatloads of re-

GOOGOO GAAGAA STANDS IN SWEDEN

On June 23, 2012, Googoo Gaagaa (Cam’s Rocket x Koras Trotter) trotted into the history books by shattering the world record for trotters of all ages previously set in 2010 by Arch Madness. Owned and trained by Richard Hans, the then three-year-old covered the 5/8-mile oval at Po- cono Downs (PA) in 1:50.4 to win the $500,000 Earl Beal Memorial Jr. Final. Corey Callahan drove him to victory. Later that same year, the colt set a new track record at Rosecroft on October 27, 2012. He cur-

rently holds the track record at Rosecroft for Three-Year-Old Colt Trotters at 1:54.1. As a two-year-old, Googoo Gaagaa was named 2011 Horse of the Year Two Year Old Colt/Gelding

Trotter by the Cloverleaf Standardbred Owner’s Association. He also earned the same title that year from the Maryland Standardbred Breeders Association. For his three-year-old season, Googoo Gaagaa was Cloverleaf’s 2012 Horse of the Year Three Year Old Colt/Gelding Trotter and MSBA’s Three Year Old Trotting Colt/Gelding. Then in 2018, his success hit an international stage and he was named MSBA’s Trotting Sire of the Year. Hans then sold the breeding sire to Broline Stutteri in Sweden where he now stands for the 2020 season.
