A Path of Her Own In telling the WIL audience of her journey to where she is now, Morgan wanted to convey that her early love of caring for seniors has never waned, and that along the way she made mistakes that were turned into learning experiences. So many of the mentors in the senior living business have recalled how pushing themselves to succeed has also meant realizing what has not worked as well as what has worked. “I truly don't have any regrets. I look at the past and what's happened


throughout my life, and there's certainly moments that I wasn't shining my best and maybe a little bit ashamed of my actions. But that's life. And instead of saying I regret, it's more of turning it into a positive of learning from it and being able to have the ability to self-reflect and have self-awareness, which I think is a real strength of mine,” Morgan said. As for professional, business-focused challenges she pointed to Clear-


water as the most trying time as far as getting a start-up company up and running. “So, we're a startup company, we're an owner-operator developer, when


I came on board, and we had no management fees coming in. It's like every day we're losing money and at the same time we are very focused on creating a brand and creating our vision, our culture, and looking for opportunities to acquire and develop, build our own,” she said. For the first six months or so of her tenure, it seemed like the job was all


about utilizing her Rolodex and phoning in help from. Trusted colleagues and friends “How do I even create a website? What companies should I use? I know


this is not my skill set. This is not my strength. We were all forced to wear different hats to get this company launched. It was uncomfortable at times but that’s where learning and personal development and growth comes from. If it were easy, everyone would be doing it,” Morgan said. Eventually, the business worked and still does, as the building and ac-


quisition of a portfolio of communities has gelled but not without growing pains as building a brand was not an easy task. One of her lasting thoughts from her three-plus decades in the business is to keep learning, expand your network, and get involved. “The more you get to know people, the more you learn. And it just


expands your horizon, your lens,” she said. “It opens up your world just when you think you might know it all, it's like, ‘oh my gosh, I had no idea about this aspect of the business.’ And there are people out there who are amazing connectors. So, by getting involved and joining committees and participating in association events, going to those business mixers hour and networking luncheons, you never know who's going to sit next to you.”
