PAWPAW TREES. Odd-shaped fruits turn from light green to brown with a creamy custard-like texture and delicious sweet banana-like fl avor. An interesting ornamental native fruit tree with a pyramidal shape. Slow growing, maturing to 20 to 25 ft., but can be kept smaller if pruned. Has large 12 in. tropical looking leaves. Fruits can be as large as 1 lb., ripen in September and are high in protein, Vitamins A and C. Prefers moist, slightly acidic soil and shade to partial shade. Plant two trees for proper pollination. 30885 MEADER (SEEDLESS). Ex- tremely sweet with tomato-like texture when ripe. Fruit is seedless if not pollinat- ed. This tremendous American persimmon was bred and selected by Dr. Elwyn Mead- er in New Hampshire. The delicious orange fruits are sweet beyond comparison. A fall frost enhances their fl avor. Unripe fruits can be frozen or dried. Use them in pud- dings, cakes, cookies, as dessert toppings, or dry them for later if you enjoy a date-like fl avor. But above all else, enjoy them fresh.
