As you walk the grocery store aisles, you may notice some new labels on the front of food packages. What are they? What do they mean? How can you use them to build a more healthful diet? The new Facts Up Front label helps you make informed decisions quickly and easily as you shop. Take a look:
Calories
Your body gets energy from calories. The more calories you burn through activity, the more calories you need. All calories count, no matter what foods they come from.
Daily target: 2,000 calories* Sodium
Your body needs some sodium to help your muscles and nerves work normally, but most people get more than they need.
Daily target: 2,300 mg PER 1 CUP SERVING
Saturated Fat
The USDA recommends eating less saturated fat. Getting too much may increase your risk of heart disease and stroke.

Sugar
Sugar is a source of calories, so you’ll want to watch how much sugar you get in your diet. Sugar is found naturally in some foods and beverages, and may also be added for fl avor, texture, and color.
