Ripple has announced the appointment of Miguel Vias, pictured, as Head of XRP Markets. XRP is the venture’s digital asset which negates the need for banks to hold various currencies in local bank accounts around the world. Vias will leverage his expertise building liquidity for new financial products by working with market makers, traders, investors and exchanges, with the aim of strengthening the XRP markets and setting the stage for large-scale institutional adoption. He joins from CME Group, where he was global head of precious metals and metal options. Prior to that, he spent time at the commodities desks of Morgan Stanley, Bank of America, and Mitsui.

Christopher Mager is vacating the position of Head of Market Segments at BNY Mellon to lead its newly created Global Innovation Group in the Treasury Services business.

Deutsche Bank has announced two new additions to its innovation team. Elly Hardwick will become Head of Innovation and Philip Milne Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for Innovation.
Hardwick’s CV includes stints as CEO of Credit Benchmark and Global Head of Strategy, Investment and Advisory at Thomson Reuters. Prior to that, she worked for Morgan Stanley. Milne was recently CEO and Founder of a virtual reality startup in Silicon Valley. He was a member of the founding teams that created the Android platform at Google and the Java platform at Sun Microsystems. Earlier in his career, he served as the Global CTO at Dresdner Kleinwort. Hardwick will be based in London and Milne in Palo Alto. Both will report to JP Rangaswami, Chief Data Officer, Head of Strategy and Innovation for the Chief Operating Office.

James Stickland has joined biometric authentication software firm Veridium as CEO. The appointment comes three months after Veridium, formerly known as Hoyos Labs, rebranded and launched its end-to-end biometric authentication solution, VeridiumID.
Prior to a stint at Red Deer Systems, where he was responsible for the firm’s strategic direction, Stickland was Director of Innovation and Investments at HSBC’s FinTech division. “I first heard about Veridium during my tenure at HSBC and I’ve followed their progress ever since. They have an incredible team, with a passion for enterprise security technology, in one of the most exciting spaces: biometrics, identity and access management,” he says. “Veridium is at the forefront of using mobile- based biometric authentication for mobile banking and payments, as well as increasing the security and convenience for accessing enterprise data. Finally, there is a feasible option for passwords, PINS, and security tokens. It’s an exciting time to join as we are ready to take our solutions to the market.”
