manufacturers,” said Cunningham. “We’re proud of our core bank program. If there is forecasting for future sales on a core, ACE will collect the part and store it for the future. When the part becomes desirable then ACE will sell it to a remanufacturer at top dollar. The auto recycler will then be paid on what the product is worth once it is in high demand,” explains Cunningham.

For recyclers who want to get started with a core pro- gram, he says it’s imperative that they set up their own yard management systems to automatically put the core charge on their invoices.

You can continue to increase your revenue once you have established a core program and we continue to see an increase each year. Your efficiencies will go up and you will get better at doing this over time.

“For recyclers wanting to get started with a core pro- gram, they have to go in and change the yard man- agement system settings. They also have to look at the value ratios; if something has a low core value you don’t want to charge the core because you don’t want them to bring it back,” says Cunningham. Cunningham has seen steady growth in their core

program every year since setting it up and changing the way they saw their cores. “You can continue to increase your revenue once you have established a core program and we continue to see an increase each year,” he said. “Your efficiencies will go up and you will get better at doing this over time. The scope is bigger than you think and espe- cially in a time when recy- clers are looking for other streams of revenue coming into their businesses. There is money just waiting to be added to your bottom line and establishing a core

charge program allows you to do just that.” This is part one of a three part series on Cores as Commodities; stay tuned for part two: Controlling Your Commodity in the next issue of Automotive Recycling Magazine.
