or the past 30 years, CARFAX® been a trusted provider of vehicle his-

has

tory information used by millions of con- sumers and businesses each year. What you might not know is that recyclers ben- efit from this information. Therefore, the Automotive Recyclers Association has added this service to your marketplace of member benefits, which means you are getting the best price on vehicle reports possible for our industry. “CARFAX has had a relationship with our industry partners for a number of years,” says Michael E. Wilson, ARA CEO. “With the increasingly complex auction environment that our members face, we want to help members gain the compet- itive edge to get the cars they bid on at the right price, to ensure return on invest- ment. We are partnering with CARFAX to provide low-cost report pricing, and the best opportunity to estimate a car’s part value. With exports taking 30% of the auto recyclers available salvage, a recycler may actually be able to get more for the engine or transmission than they think if they know its history.”

Using the vehicle identification num- ber (VIN), a CARFAX Vehicle History Report™ provides: • Title information, including salvaged or junked titles

• Flood damage history • Total loss accident history • Odometer readings • Service records

• State emissions inspection results • Lemon history • Number of owners • Accident indicators, such as airbag deployments

• Vehicle use (taxi, rental, lease, etc.) This information can help you make bet- ter choices on salvage purchases and esti- mate the right price when you buy or sell.

Get the Edge with CARFAX For as little as $5 to $14.99 per report,

ARA members can obtain information about a car of interest on the auction block, versus the $39.99 per report one would pay going outside of the ARA Marketplace for the same report. That’s a 60+ percent savings that comes with the potential to save the headache of a lemon car or overpaying for a salvage that is in dif- ferent condition than you think. While the $5 Total Loss Report provides the last odometer reading, the more com- prehensive vehicle history report at $14.99 is the better value. It gives you more histo- ry (see list), which allows you to guesstimate the value of the car in part sales. This report includes useful information, like, recall information, service records, state emission inspection results, the location history of the car, previous flood damage, accident and repair history, and more. The CAR- FAX Price Adjustment means one can determine if a vehicle is worth more or less based on its history. The CARFAX Vehicle History Report also shows DMV title histo- ry and odometer rollback alerts to deter- mine odometer fraud.

Membership Has More Perks “An auto recycler would be able to smart-

ly strategize if they are buying a vehicle that has limited recyclability due to past history or if they can pay more for a car because it contains prime sellable parts,” says Wilson. But wait, it gets better! ARA has secured for members a first year rate of only $7.50 per CARFAX Vehicle History Report. For

NEW MARKETPLACE VALUE –CARFAX Reports Aid Auto Recyclers in Buying Salvage

one full year, you can get the vehicle his- tory report for almost the same price as the odometer-only report. “We believe once the recycler starts using this to aide buying decisions, they will see the return on investment,” says Wilson. “With the price of inventory, and sal- vage pools taking less time to retrieve mill- age,” says RD Hopper of Sonny’s Auto Salvage, “CARFAX is a tool auto recyclers must use to insure they are making the best purchasing decisions. I hope we can work together with our providers to inte- grate CARFAX into our bidding tools. I believe we have just scratched the surface of how CARFAX can work with recyclers to provide a competitive edge. I current- ly check my higher-end cars before pur- chasing; I feel it gives me an advantage when bidding. I hope to use CARFAX more in the future on all types of salvage. I would like to thank ARA and CARFAX for entering into a relationship to better help us work together.” “We are excited to provide this value to the members of the ARA and the ARA Affiliate Chapters,” says Jon-Erik Valetti, Marketing Manager, Banking & Insur- ance Group, CARFAX. “We have a dedi- cated account manager assigned to ARA who can help members get the most out of the program. Members will receive quarterly check-ins to make sure the pro- gram is working to their maximum satis- faction. Auto recyclers already enrolled have found CARFAX to be a great bene- fit to their bottom line.” To open an account with CARFAX, contact Kristine Cain at (800) 789-6232 ext. 4299 or email her at KristineCain @carfax.com to start your account today or to convert your current account to the ARA Marketplace program.
