40 TRAVEL TRADE NEWS Atlantic Joint Venture evening for agents


AIRLINE members of the Atlantic Joint Venture hosted members of the local Travel Trade in Zen Restaurant in Belfast recently. There was a great turnout of almost 50 agents on a night when Belfast was lashed by gale force winds and rain.

Agents enjoyed a fun fi lled evening with drinks and the best of Asian cuisine. Agents also had the chance to test their knowledge to win tickets with United Airlines along with spot prizes off ered by Air Canada and the Lufthansa Group. The winner of two United Airlines tickets to the USA was Colin Laffi n, Laffi n Travel, while the winner of an Air Canada retro style wheeled suitcase was Bruce Cairns of Travel Counsellors. Winner of Afternoon Tea for Two at the Grand Central sponsored by Lufthansa was Michael Holmes of WTC and Beverley Weir of Century Travel was the winner of a Bottle of Canadian Sparkling Rose Wine, presented by Air Canada. The highly successful event was co-organised by the Northern Ireland Events Team.

Trade ski trip to New York State


A GROUP of Northern Ireland travel agents visited the fabulous Hunter Mountain ski resort in New York State recently. The trip was organised by local tour operator Travel Solutions which is operating ski holidays to Hunter Mountain from December to March with direct fl ights from Dublin. Travelling with the group, Travel Solutions Operations Director, Julie Magill said: “We understand the benefi t of our travel agency partners experiencing our ski product and we thank the agents who travelled this week for giving up their time.


“Hunter Mountain will prove a great addition to our ski portfolio of destinations and we look forward to welcoming skiers next season”.

New members of luxury team


LUXURY tailor-made tour operator Exsus Travel has welcomed two new members to their team, travel experts Tom Cloherty and Neil Sutton. Both Tom and Neil have extensive experience of working with travel agents, through their many years of working with leading luxury tour operators.


Tom, Senior Account Manager for Worldwide, started his career as a high street travel agent and brings over 19 years of experience in luxury travel. Neil, Senior Account Manager for Europe, fell in love with travel while studying for his degree in Spain.


Neil Sealy, Head of Trade Sales, adds: “Last year was full steam ahead for Exsus, from joining ABTA and AITO to launching our fi rst brochure in over a decade. We’ve already had a fantastic start to 2019, our ‘year of the Trade’, with great feedback from agents, our fi rst educational for agents to Iceland and now, having both Tom and Neil join us - it’s a very exciting time at Exsus.’


Global on the road in County Down...


GLOBAL Travel Group’s UK Head of Sales and Business Development Darren Bond has been out on the road delivering ‘thank you’ treats to brighten up shop fl oors across the country to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day recently. The other day Darren paid a surprise visit to Travellers Secrets in Warrenpoint, County Down, to visit agent Joanne Hardy and agency owner Sue Goodwin.

GROUPS of agents from across Northern Ireland were hosted by KLM and Belfast City Airport at a unique specialist training event at the airport. Frank McCaff rey, KLM Account Manager for Northern Ireland opened proceedings with an update on the KLM network and product news for the daily KLM Belfast Amsterdam service, now in its 4th year of operation.


This was followed by KLM Senior Group Agent, Ms Angela Mimiaga, who travelled from Amsterdam to give training on the Air France KLM online Groups booking portal ‘TigreWeb’, which is available to all Travel Agents via the Trade only website agentconnect.biz. TigreWeb gives agents the chance to

As a special treat the agents were also given a fascinating tour of the Airport’s Fire Services to see how they monitor and maintain the airport’s exemplary safety record.


Afterwards, the agents then went on to meet the crew and get a close up view of the KLM Embraer 175 jet that operates daily between Belfast City and the Amsterdam Schiphol, KLM’s global hub, with connections to over 133 destinations in 66 countries.
