10 new jobs. The owners of the popular bar, which is part of The Merchant Hotel in Belfast’s bustling Cathedral Quarter, have described the evolution of the venue as a ‘traditional Irish Victorian pub, reimagined.’ Following the signifi cant refurbishment, customers will see a total transformation to the interior of the bar, which will be a modern interpretation of an Irish Victorian pub. Featuring a bold blue colour scheme, salvaged fl oors laid in a herringbone pattern, an ornate ceiling and a reclaimed Victorian bar, the stylish space will be warm and inviting, creating a comfortable environment.
But perhaps the biggest diff erence will be the venue’s ambition to ‘reintroduce the gentle art of conversation.’ With a stripped back entertainment policy, with no live music and TVs, the venue will encourage patrons to converse through a series of events and initiatives. All diners will be encouraged to take a ‘digital detox’ and will be invited to place their phones in a box on the table, with forfeits decided among guests.
Celebrate Easter with a Global Geopark interactive event!
THE annual Easter event at Belleek Pottery Visitor Centre, takes place on Monday 22nd April from 2-4pm. From 2pm join Belleek Pottery Visitor Centre for a fabulous event where we will be partnering with the team for the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark to bring you an afternoon of geopark interactive activities for children.
Patricia McCauley Visitor Centre Manager explains: “Our 2019 Easter Event is going to be a little bit diff erent this year. We will be partnering with the Marble Arch Caves Global Geopark team to bring an afternoon of geopark activity right here at the visitor centre at the pottery”.
The pottery is located within the global geopark,
the UNESCO designation that celebrates the regions geology. The raw materials used to make Belleek china, originally came from the Caldwell Estate not far from the village of Belleek.
In fact more than 160 years ago, part of the reason why the pottery was built in Belleek was because of the geology of the area and the discovery that in close proximity to the village of Belleek was an abundant source of a clay that could be used to make china. Younger visitors who perhaps have not been on the
Bloomfi eld Trail will also be able to take the pottery tour following our animated trail.
Booking is essential for this event as spaces are limited. Admission £3 per child.
