The UK Government introduced new travel regulations for people entering the UK at the start of January. This new electronic travel authorisation scheme, otherwise known as ETA, applies to travellers visiting the UK for less than six months on tourism, business or study grounds.


The new scheme came into


effect for 48 countries back on the 8th of January and the scheme will be further rolled out to all non-visa national visitors on 2 April 2025. However, only weeks after


the ETA’s implementation, the UK Government announced that it would be increasing the price of the ETA from £10 to £16, a whopping 60% increase. Suggested benefits were


discussed in Parliament, with belief that the increase in cost would result in a ‘streamlined’ immigration system, enhancing both speed and security. The proposed increase has


not been welcomed by the UK Tourism industry and businesses with the DfE continuing to push for an exemption for Northern Ireland.
