HALL OF HONOR


Ken Harris


Ken Harris of Cannon-Muskegon is regarded worldwide as an expert in vacuum cast superalloy manufacturing and development extending over 40 years in the investment casting industry. Currently employed at Can- non-Muskegon (CM) since 1981, Harris is the Technical Director and under his direction, CM has developed VIM melt- ing practices and raw materials tech- nologies for cast and PM disk superal- loys that are recognized worldwide for quality and cleanliness.


During his tenure, Harris has managed and developed key technical personnel within the CM Technology department and laboratories.


Harris has published numerous publications in both industry and technical symposium, such as Turbo Expo, TMS, ASM, and has co-authored eight papers presented at the ICI. He is the inventor/co-inventor of 14 single crystal (SX), directionally solidified (DS) and equiaxe cast Ni-base superalloys used in aero, marine and industrial gas turbines worldwide. Harris is a Chartered Engineer, and a recipient of the FIM and FASM.

James D. Jackson


James D. Jackson of S&A Consulting Group has worked in the investment casting industry since 1975. He began his career at Sherwood


Refractories as product manager, and developed a blending process that allowed usage of one million pounds out of spec zircon during the shortage of zircon. Jackson shares two patents on the manufacture of large, segmented molds and is the lead inventor on the use of microwaves for drying ceramic molds. Over the years, Jackson has served the Institute in various capacities, from Vice President of the BOD, to Technical Director and has represented both Affiliate and Regular Members. Jackson has served on numerous committees and taught at several Process Control Courses and training courses in Israel. He has contributed about 40 papers – both authored and co-authored – on investment casting many of which were presented at ICI Technical Conferences. Jackson has also authored a Technical Directors column for INCAST Magazine.


Bruce S. Phipps Bruce S. Phipps of MPI, Inc. has


been dedicated to developing products and solving problems in the wax room for 40+ years.


Phipps started MPI with his partner and a single employee in 1972. Today, MPI, Inc. employs 75 employees and is an ISO 9001-2008 certified company. Over the years, Phipps developed


and installed the first wax room automation prototype in the early 2000s and installed the first production automated pattern assembly system. Since that time, he has secured seven patents in the area of wax room automation.


Phipps has driven partnerships between MPI and the National Science Foundation, as well as the NY State Energy Research and Development Authority and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute on several research projects. Phipps served on the ICI Board from 2007 to 2009 and since 2006, he continues to volunteer as an instructor at the ICI Certification and Process Control Courses.


He has written, published and presented numerous papers worldwide.
