East Anglia Offshore Windfarm: Zonal Environmental Assessment Benthic Report
Sediment Group A comprised 15 sa mples and was the second smal lest sediment group encountered across the EAOW zone. Table 1 indicates that thi s sediment group was representative of Muddy Sandy Gravel deposits. Figure 11 reveals that al l occurrences of Sediment Group A were recorded towards the central and n orthern reaches of Area B. Thi s group was not found in Area A.
Sediment Group B was recorded at ten stations across the area of interest and was the smallest of the sediment groups encountered within the EAOW zone. Table 1 reveals that this group was representative of Gravelly Sand. Figure 11 r eveals that Sediment Group B was found predominantly towards the south of Area B.
Sediment Group C was the group which dominated the area of interest, with a total of 67% (379) samples assigned to this group.
Table 1 rev eals that Sediment Group C was, like Sediment Group B, characterised as Gravelly Sand, however, closer inspection of Table 1 revels that samples belonging to Sediment Group C typically contained greater proportions of mud and l esser proportions of gravel than did thei r Sediment Group B counterparts. Figure 11 reveals that Sediment Group C was found across Area B and across the southernmost reaches of Area A.
Sediment Group D was the second most frequently encountered sedi ment group. Table 1 r eveals that this group was representative of Sli ghtly Gravelly Sand. Figure 11 reveal s that Sediment Group D was particularly prevalent within Area A and that this sediment type also occurred across the north-western fri nges of Area B in an area which is known to support large sandbanks.
