Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) president, North America Evan Lamberg (pictured, left) presented Skylar Grey with an RIAA Diamond Award for her global hit song, Love The Way You Lie, by Eminem feat. Rihanna, which has sold over 11 million singles in the US alone. Grey co-wrote the song along with UMPG songwriters Alex Da Kid and Eminem. Prepping for a new album release in 2016 and wrapping up a tour with X Ambassadors, Grey recently released her new single, Cannonball via Interscope/ KidinaKorner, which has already been streamed over 1.6 million times on Spotify, with nearly 800,000 plays on YouTube, and has reached No.6 on the Billboard Alternative Digital chart.

WRITER’S NOTES

Top-notch tunesmiths on their history with songs

Circa 95

Published by Notting Hill Music. Artists written for include, Chipmunk, Pia Mia

What was the first song you ever wrote?

The first song we ever wrote together was a song called Always There For Me. We were still in school and both 15 years old.

And what the last song you wrote?

The last song we wrote is a song called Danger Zone, which we produced and co wrote in LA.

What is the song you’re proudest of and why? This is a tough question, but if we had to pick one, it would be the last song, Danger Zone.

Which song do you wish you’d written and why? It would have to be Michael Jackson’s Thriller, written by Rod Temperton. The lyrics and production are a perfect marriage.

Where do you write and what do you write on/with?

We are normally in the studio, but we have written over the phone, on FaceTime and in the car. We mainly write on the Piano, but sometimes we write to full production that we have created.

Who is your favourite songwriter of all time? Stevie Wonder, Diane Warren, George Harrison, and Paul McCartney (pictured).
