ARCHIVE YOUNG AT ART
BBC TV’s head of music television commissioning Jan Younghusband spoke to Music Week about her vision for the broadcaster moving forward. Leaning on nostalgia by reviving old staples like Top Of The Pops was not, it must be said, high on the agenda. Instead, Younghusband had other plans. “Our job is to surprise the audience and find new things to say about music,” she explained.
AMY FOREVER Universal Music UK chairman/CEO David
Joseph reflected on Asif Kapadia’s 2015 Amy Winehouse documentary Amy, which was securing a host of award nominations. “I don’t think any of us knew how difficult it was going to be to make,” he said. “We knew the middle bit of the story and the end, but the other bits about understanding who she was, beyond the sides we’d seen as a record company, were all a big voyage of discovery.”
TOP STORY
FOUR THE RECORD The BRIT Awards 2016 was notable for many
reasons, from its tasteful David Bowie tribute to its strong ratings seeing an average of 5.8 million people watching the show. But the night belonged to one person and one person only: Adele. The star – riding very high on the success of her 2015 album 25 – picked up British Female Solo Artist, Global Success, British Single Of The Year and MasterCard British Album Of The Year. “I don’t think anybody does it for awards, but it’s always lovely to get recognition on any level for whatever you do,” said her manager Jonathan Dickins as the star equalled Blur’s previous four-award haul from 1995.
