A staged publicity shot of the “Aliosaurus vs. Brontosaurus” battle, which takes place at the edge of the plateau cliff in the feature itself.
Malone’s classic sappy line, “What are you
thinking of, Paula—in this lost world of ours?” is followed by two insert shots of Roxton that differ from those in any other version, supplanting com pletely similar shots previously available. There is a new close-up shot of the Apeman
in the tree, just before the first animation shot of the foraging Trachodon. Note that the Trachodon scene is reportedly one of the first ani mation sequences that was filmed, and the animation is no ticeably cruder than those in the rest of the film, suggesting the animator em ployed two-or-more frames per expo sure than the sup
pler single-frame exposures the action required (for more on the animation of this sequence, see below).
36 The tint momen
tarily changes to a bright red for the single closeup of the Aliosaurus catching the blazing torch in its mouth. The violent encounter between the rampag
ing Aliosaurus and the ceratopsian Agathaumas— m is id e n t if ie d as e ith e r a Triceratops or Monoclonius in other accounts—is intact in GT, LUMI, and IMG, but was inexplicably cut from GEH. This trim drew an audible gasp from some mem bers of the Syracuse audience, and considerable attention afterwards. In this vivid animation se quence (Chapter 10, 48:41-49:09), the Aliosaurus is literally disemboweled by the Agathaumas nasal horn, and the con tents of the carni vore’s thoraxic cavity
