Chinaplas 2017 | exhibition preview
The latest edition of the huge annual plastics show returns to Guangzhou. Here, we preview some of the highlights that are of interest to film and sheet extruders
Chinaplas 2017: exhibition preview
Chinaplas returns to Guangzhou again this year. And, despite a slight increase in exhibition area space to around 250,000 sq m, the organiser, Adsale, is expecting exhibitor numbers to be flat – and visitor numbers to fall by around 7% (though this is compared with the Shangai version of the show).
The show is expected to host around 3,300
exhibiting companies. Here, we round up just a small selection of the technologies of interest to film and sheet extruders. Amut Comi will showcase a working ACF 820
thermoforming machine at Chinaplas. The model is configured in three stations (forming -
cutting - stacking), with a forming mould size of 820 x 650mm and clamping force of 240kN. The cutting station has area of 800 x 630mm and clamping force of 600kN. The heating oven is a new development with five-step
length or 3.250mm, and allows thick PP sheets to be processed without any need of pre-heater. Visitors will see the machine deliver PET punnets starting from 350 micron foil and reach a production speed up to 60 wet cycles per minute with a 15-cavity mould. All the company’s thermoforming machines are
driven by Easy – the smart HDMI that understands the data set by the operator. Its main feature include: automatic adjustment of cycle parameters, based on the set speed; optimised diagnostics; monitor displaying of I/O PLC cards; automatic check of the set parameters – refusing data that is not compatible with the prede- fined cycle; detailed pie chart of all functions of the automatic loop; and, an energy saving system with optimisation of oven heating in relation to mould size. Brampton Engineering of Canada says that its
single-inlet Vector air ring streamlines flow and reduces pressure losses and temperature rises – re- sulting in more efficient use of chilled air, to achive higher output on a blown film line.

Rather than split the flow of air from the chiller using a manifold to distribute it around the entry, Vector has a composite volute that is precisely contoured to achieve uniform airflow velocity around the film bubble – without excess energy, pressure losses, or an untidy mess of hoses. Infrared imaging proves that the film cools as fast – and with better uniformity – at much lower blower speeds. The air ring lip needs to control how the chilled air flow affects the film bubble, to allow process technicians to secure stable ‘bubble lock’ with a wide range of films. The Vector dual lip provides automated control of lip positions without affecting flow rate, making it easier to set up and optimise, with a wider operating window, says Brampton. All operating parameters including lip positions are precisely set with Italycs or a stand-alone control
