Film winders | machinery feature
The latest developments in film winder
technology range from a complete
winding station for agricultural film to one that can accommodate wider diameter reels
Film winders help to ensure that film is quickly and efficiently transferred from being a finished product in a factory to something can be shipped out of the door to customers. As such, speed and efficiency are key factors in their operation. Last year, Bandera hosted the trial of a complete
winding station – comprising two winders dedicated to agricultural film applications – which was then shipped to a customer in Northern Europe. Bandera created customised equipment that fitted with the customer’s existing line and met all its requirements, allowing it to process a variety of products with a wide thickness range. The complete equipment includes one station with winding centre for jumbo reels, and one station with automatic shaftless winder for small reels. The single station winding centre ASN/430 SL 3500 was specially conceived for jumbo reels. Features include: automatic reel extraction; axial / surface winding with pneumatic expansion mandrels supporting the cores; maximum reel width of 3,400mm, and diameter of 1,000mm; and, an automatic system for the extraction of the finished reels. The single station automatic shaftless winder TA 3300, which was specially conceived for small reels, features fully automatic change operation, as well as roll discharge and automatic taping units. It is possible to wind by contact as well as by combined mode (with driven mandrels). The accumulation section has an 18m compensator,
while there is storage capacity for 50 cores. Reel width of the system is 3,100mm.

Reel success: developments in film winders
Portfolio update Reifenhäuser Cast Sheet Coating has expanded and updated its portfolio of line components, with the introduction of the Midex-HSD winder. In 2015, the company sold five cast film lines equipped with the new winder for the production of cast polypropylene (CPP) packaging film. In Europe many producers prefer finished film rolls
which can be directly processed after storage without the need for rewinding and slitting. In contrast, jumbo rolls are more popular outside Europe. “Customers who want to use latest generation of
metallisers demand reel diameters of up to 1200 mm which – unlike 1000 mm diameter reels used so far – give 45% more running film length,” said Mark Borutta, sales manager at Reifenhäuser CSC. It means that the metalliser can be operated for
longer – and so more efficiently, since downtimes during a reel change can be reduced by one third. This can be 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the model type
