Profile: The company began in 1990 as a distributor of plastic pipes, but it soon expanded into manufacturing by setting up an 8,000 sq m production facility in Buenos Aires. The company now makes a range of plastic pipe – from 25 to 2,300mm diameter, in PVC, PP and HDPE. As well as standard pipe, it manufactures structural helically wound pipe, which it supplies to the domestic and other Latin American markets such as Peru and Paraguay.
Product lines: The company’s focus is on water pipe – either for transportation of hot and cold water, or for sewage – but it also makes products for cable protection. Its brands include TuboFusion (PP pipe for hot and cold water), TuboCanal (gravity fed pipe), TuboObra (large diameter gravity fed systems), UniTubo (interlocking PVC pipe) and TuboOptica (to carry telecoms equipment such as fibre optic cables).
Factory locations:
Plastiferro has three manufacturing sites in Argentina. Its original Buenos Aires site boasts five extruders. Its 16,000 sq m San Luis factory – acquired when it bought Oblak Plastics in 2001 – has 14 extrusion lines, and makes a diversity of products, including sewage, drainage and other pipe. In 2008, it added a third plant in Santiago del Estero, with two extrusion lines.
