system can be converted from, for example, strand pelletising to underwater or water ring pelletising and back. “It is important for the system to provide the user with all necessary control options and pertinent information to ensure that it can be reconfigured as quickly and easily as possible to meet production requirements,” the company says. Machine control, including control of all connected
peripheral equipment, is realised entirely via the central touchscreen operating system, making it possible to clearly display all relevant process param- eters at a glance. In addition to plant control, it is possible to connect and communicate with other systems, including order and formulation management, production data analysis, and even other existing IT structures such as ERP systems. “This enables faster, leaner, paperless processes that already meet the requirements for production according to Industry 4.0,” notes Feddem Managing Director Dieter Gross. advanced intelligent automation and control to its extruders “to make them highly reliable and more stable, and to pre-empt any mechanical problems, processing issues or technical glitches when materials are processed.” The company told Compounding World it expects to make a further announcement in this area around the middle of the year.

for example, to protect the entire processing unit and drive unit against accidental contact or contamination. The cooling/heating system is fully integrated in the frame with one central water connection serving the entire machine. And cleaning and replacing individual components is said to be extremely easy. A standard frame accepts process lengths of 24 L/D
up to a maximum of 48 L/D. “With a change of formula- tion, the processing unit can thus be extended or shortened with no problems,” Wolf claims. Coperion also presented a 35mm extruder, the STS 35 Mc11, especially designed for masterbatch produc- tion at K 2016. The machine offers a specific torque of 11.3 Nm/cm3
