TILE ASSOCIATION URGES MEMBERS TO FOLLOW CORRECT PRICING


GUIDELINES The Tile Association is encouraging its members to be aware of the guidelines issued by the Committee on Advertising Practice (CAP) when considering pricing strategies.


This applies particularly to the issue of defining Recommended Retail Prices (RRPs) when promoting discount sales campaigns. It is believed that certain companies within the industry are making claims such “50 per cent off RRP” when in fact the RRPs have on occasion not been properly established.


The full guidance on these issues is available on the CAP website, but a key consideration is that “price comparisons are likely to mislead if the RRP differs significantly from the price at which the product or service is generally sold”. Therefore, even if a quoted RRP is the price set by the manufacturer of the product, it has to be established that the product has actually been sold in the market at that price, in order to be able to refer to it legitimately in a price discounting campaign.


Retailers are advised that making incorrect claims concerning RRPs can lead to a referral to the Advertising Standards Authority. In the past the ASA has upheld complaints against retailers who have claimed that a certain product has been “generally sold” at a certain price, but who have been subsequently unable to prove that anyone bought the product at that price. The TTA therefore advises its members to seek appropriate advice on what constitutes a genuine RRP, before making any discount claims.

FEET ON NEW SOIL-NATIONAL FLOORING EQUIPMENT APPOINTS EUROPEAN


DIRECTOR To manage an increased demand for its products in Europe, floor removal specialist National Flooring Equipment has appointed Toine van den Heuvel as European director.


Toine, who has twelve years of experience working in the equipment rental industry, will facilitate National Flooring Equipment's relationships with rental partners across the continent.


Before joining National Flooring Equipment, Toine was operations director at General Electric Capital Equipment Services Europe. In this role, he was responsible for providing transport and logistics solutions across Europe in the leasing, rental, maintenance and repair markets. He was part of the team that helped transform the company from a rental-only business to a full-service organisation.


Toine said: "I have previously been employed by some of the largest rental companies in the world. I understand what these companies want from equipment manufacturers and I have a good insight into the needs and particularities of the European market.


"I was already familiar with National Flooring Equipment, as I've worked in the industry for several years. The company's combination of extraordinary products and excellent customer service and training was something that I wanted to be involved in. It's also a great opportunity for me to help develop the company so that it operates on a similar scale in Europe as it does in the US."


Outside of work, Toine spends as much time as possible with his children. He bought a small farmhouse ten years ago and spends his weekends restoring the building to its original condition. Toine also finds time to be a core course teacher at Business School Netherlands (BSN) — the first education provider in Holland to offer full English Master of Business Administration (MBA) programmes. He has also been an administrator of his local Rotary club for the last eight years.
