COVER STORY

WORLD OF WEBER

As a subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, one of the

world’s largest and longest-running industrial groups, Weber offers a complete range of industrial mortar solutions. Here, we take a

closer look at the company’s background and product offerings.

As part of Saint-Gobain, specialist in the habitat and construction market, Weber is the globally-recognised manufacturer and innovator of easy- to-apply products in the tile-fixing market. Tiling materials are just part of the business’s output as Weber is also a leading player in technical mortars, facades and flooring systems with innovative products and materials that have a natural synergy.

By delivering high-performance solutions to enhance our habitat and daily life, it comes as little surprise that Weber’s award-winning products are designed to make a difference. Take Low Dust Technology or Low Dust for short, as a perfect example. This advanced formulation was introduced a decade ago and is proven to significantly reduce airborne dust created during the pouring and mixing processes. Initially added to weberset rapid SPF, Low Dust has more recently been incorporated with weberfloor flex and weberset pro lite-rapid, without compromising the premium characteristics of the original products.

James Mead, Technical Director at Saint-Gobain Weber, said: “Since the introduction of Low Dust Technology, our customers have benefited from these labour saving and technically superior products enjoying a cleaner and more comfortable working environment with less post- application clearing up and waste.”

Taking a closer look at these products, weberfloor flex, which took

Best Interior Product of the Year in the Housebuilder 2016 awards, not only features the tangible benefits of Low Dust, but recent improvements have resulted in improved set-time, from 2-4 hours down to 1-2 hours, allowing fastest possible access for other trades.

weberfloor flex with Low Dust Technology is a cement-based, self- smoothing and self-levelling screed. It is used for correcting irregularities on difficult surfaces including concrete slabs, pre-cast elements, wooden flooring and existing ceramic and rigid plastic tiles. It is also suitable for floating floors with underfloor heating, and will cover flexible coverings, parquet flooring and certain floor paints. weberfloor flex can be built up to a maximum thickness of 50mm and its fibre-modified formula increases strength and resilience.

“This intelligent screed offers the added benefit of improved bond, although the rapid-setting performance was designed to satisfy the challenging requirements of the housebuilding industry, property owners and professional applicators,” continued James.

This flexible screed should be applied to a sound substrate, although localised holes up to a total depth of 50mm can be filled with weberfloor flex. Priming with weber PR360 is recommended to improve adhesion, reduce air bubbles and improve the flow of screed. Supplied in 25kg bags weberfloor flex should be thoroughly mixed with 5 litres of water per bag to form a fluid, homogenous paste. In application, the screed is poured onto
