FIRE SERVICE COLLEGE LAUNCHES BREATHING APPARATUS TRAINING SCHOOL

The Fire Service College has opened a new state-of-the-art breathing apparatus (BA) training school at its incident training ground in Moreton-in-Marsh. The facility will provide training on the full range of compressed air breathing apparatus (CABA) and will be run in partnership with technology provider Dräger.

Up to 200 delegates will be able to undergo training at any one time, expanding the College’s ability to deliver assessed, accredited and assured training to fire and rescue services across the UK and internationally.

The new facility houses four networked briefing rooms, in which delegates will learn how to service and prepare BA equipment. Improved delegate facilities include three new drying rooms and an expanded provision of showers and changing spaces, incorporating an innovative sealed ‘dirty room’. The room has been specially designed to minimise the spread of contaminants during the removal and changing of personal protective equipment.

The facility is the first product of a new strategic alliance between the Fire Service College and Dräger. Beyond the new BA training facility, the partnership will see the College and Dräger work together to develop new products and expert training – and provide the opportunity to test and showcase the latest in fire safety equipment.

Michelin in Ballymena is celebrating after reaching 3million working hours without any time lost as a result of accidents in 2014 – and employees are being urged to ‘watch out’ for each other in 2015.

Last year, the Raceview Road manufacturer gave shop floor employees a ‘belt watch’ to mark the milestone as part of its Watch Out campaign. The initiative encourages

colleagues to continue to ‘watch out’ for one another in the workplace and stay vigilant when it comes to safety.

The campaign has been so successful it will now be rolled out to other Michelin factory sites.

Jimmy Fenton, Site Safety Manager at Michelin, said: “Every employee should feel very proud of this achievement as they’ve all played a key role in accomplishing it and in making

Michelin a safer place to work.”

“We’re particularly proud that our safety practices are now being implemented at other Michelin facilities,” he added.

The Ballymena site was also awarded a Michelin Group Safety Award in 2014 – an award that recognises the importance of safety and safety training.
