LONE WORKER PROTECTION

SAFETY BY SMARTPHONE

YRfree tell us more about their video streaming app eviid designed in a bid to help lone workers stay safe.

When it comes to ensuring health and safety compliance, nothing beats eyes and ears on site to check behaviour, as well as catch breaches quickly.

The eviid app was initially deployed to prove job completion, however users quickly discovered that the ability to establish live and recorded video links from workers’ smartphones could also boost health and safety.

The eviid app allows workers on site to securely capture video evidence of site conditions and measures taken. They can also “patch in” experts or supervisors via live and recorded video link to get advice on safety matters, get the go-ahead to commence work or escalate the decision-making process.

eviid has been designed as a cost- effective way of carrying out virtual site visits - giving health and safety personnel and supervisors immediate access to the full picture on site. That means they can advise, intervene or give go-aheads quickly. On top of that, everything is captured automatically and can later serve as important evidence.

In simple terms, eviid automatically stamps date, place and time onto footage, puts it in a tamper-evident wrapper, compresses it and sends it to a safe place. For workers and contractors this means a faster and fool-proof way of capturing and sharing a situation, as well as an opportunity to prove compliance.

THE INS AND OUTS eviid was designed for professional use. It ensures footage and images are captured and stored securely and in line with data protection legislation. All video captured through the app is watermarked and time-stamped, ensuring it’s admissible as evidence in court.

eviid consists of a smartphone app and a back-end system, which together constitute a secure, controlled environment. Access to images captured through the app is fully controlled within this system and does not, for example, show in the device’s photo gallery.

This wall between the app and the rest of the phone means it doesn’t matter if
