THE HEALTH & SAFETY EVENT

IT’S FINALLY HERE

Welcome to the show issue of Tomorrow’s Health & Safety where we catch up with the Event Director Tim Else to gain an inside perspective about The Health & Safety Event 2016.

With an array of zones to explore at this year’s ‘3 days to save a life’ themed Health & Safety Event show, visitors are sure to be entertained.

Speaking about this year’s event Time Else, Event Director at Western BP, commented: “This year’s content has been expanded significantly and includes a wealth of new features which have been developed specifically in response to visitor feedback from last year’s show. Alongside the more passive educational content and technical product showcases, we have increased the number of interactive programmes that have been designed to encourage audience participation and the sharing of good practice.

“Visitors can expect an educational programme that is not only well- timed to reflect important legislative changes but also demonstrates the latest thinking in health and safety policy and practice. We have a range of speakers drawn from government and industry who will raise important questions about key issues facing the industry. The exhibition and many of the new features, most notably the Lions’ Lair, will provide a unique showcase to witness first-hand the latest innovations in products, services and concepts.”

The show comprises an extensive conference programme offering visitors access to free educational content and interactive forums, all of which have been curated by the British Safety Council (BSC) and the International Institute of Risk and Safety Management (IIRSM).

“WE HAVE A RANGE

OF SPEAKERS DRAWN FROM GOVERNMENT AND INDUSTRY

RAISING IMPORTANT QUESTIONS ABOUT KEY INDUSTRY ISSUES.”

Talks from Rory Underwood, former England rugby international and ex-RAF pilot, Kevin Myers, Director General, Regulation, Health & Safety Executive, Neal Stone, Deputy Chief Executive at The British Safety Council and Neil Cheyne, Senior Trainer & Technical Consultant at The Fire Protection Association are lined up across the three day show covering a host of topics.

As the opening speaker at the NEC’s Conference Theatre Kevin Myers is

set to discuss the HSE’s new strategy for the health and safety system, due to be launched in early March. The HSE’s Director General added: “One of the priorities that I will be covering is about how to refresh, re-engage – and widen – the GB ‘health and safety system’. One key area where that is necessary is in respect of the health agenda, which is a challenge given the complexities of health issues, the interface between work-related exposure to risk and non-work-related exposure and the long latency of some health issues.”

The event will also feature a Safety Dialogue Theatre, as it did last year, to host a range of interactive debates in a roundtable discussion format. Neal Stone, Policy and Standards Director at the British Safety Council, will chair a team of panellists from HSE, Land Securities, CITB and Bovis Homes, to discuss the most pressing issues in the construction industry.

Speaking about the debate Neal commented: “I think sufficient time has lapsed since the CDM 2015 has come into force for the panellists to address some questions about the effectiveness of the regulations.”
