THE HEALTH & SAFETY EVENT

A BROADER APPEAL The Health & Safety Event is located alongside the Industrial Maintenance themed event ‘Maintec’ and the Facilities Management event. This co-location has been devised in a bid to attract individuals from a wide range of industry types and sectors to allow them to access targeted information in one visit.

Tim Else, Event Director: “It may be that the vital piece of information that helps one of our visitors to save a life comes from attending a seminar or from a fellow visitor during a Safety Dialogue session. It might be that they see a new piece of technology highlighted as part of Lions’ Lair or being demonstrated on a stand. We feel by offering our visitors a cross-section of activities to attend, experts to talk to and equipment to test, feel and handle that we are doing everything we can to continually improve the health and safety knowledge and performance of businesses within the United Kingdom.”

A CHALLENGING PROCESS Organising a show of this magnitude – comprising 200 exhibitors, 48 conference sessions and 45 speakers - is understandably a test for any event organiser. We ask Tim Else, Event Director, what has been the most challenging part of organising this year’s show: “Every year, we strive to meet the growing

expectations of visitors for timely and thought-provoking content that will help inform them to make better decisions in the workplace. We constantly challenge ourselves to improve the show content to better meet those needs.

“Not only do we have more in the way of educational content, interactive forums and product managers and service providers but we also have many new features that help to build on the success of previous years’ shows and lay the groundwork for future events.”

What is Tim’s overall aim for this event?

“Crucially, we hope the show offers real value to visitors. The expanded content has been designed to enable safety managers to take away the latest good practice, so that they can apply it in the workplace and continue to drive up health and safety standards, thereby contributing to ‘saving a life’. Often isolated in their roles, safety managers do a commendable job well and we also hope that they will take a reminder away with them that they play a crucial and highly valued role in workplace safety. It’s also important that our other visitors, those that own businesses, recognise the pressures that their safety teams are under and view their contributions more positively.”

The Health & Safety Events series represents a great use of time for visitors from virtually any industry and at any level, not just health and safety professionals. Along with educational partners, the International Institute of Risk & Safety Management (IIRSM) and the British Safety Council (BSC), and sponsor 3M, the Health & Safety Event series is supported by the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS), NEBOSH, the Health and Safety Laboratory and Safety Groups UK.

The 2016 series includes two events:

• The Health & Safety Event – NEC Birmingham, 22nd-24th March

• Health & Safety North – Bolton Arena, 12th-13th October
