The survey also showed a lack of knowledge around the health issue: over 68% of respondents believe the age group most at risk of hearing loss is 60-80+. However, according to Action on Hearing Loss, there are 3.7 million people of working age (16-64) in the UK with some form of hearing loss.


Michael Jefferies, managing director of Jefferies Solicitors, commented: “The results of the survey were very surprising. Considering industrial hearing loss is such a problem, we expected to find that people’s general awareness was higher.


“Many of us go for regular health checks, eye tests and dental appointments, but leave hearing tests until it becomes a problem, when the damage has already been done. We have seen growing numbers of hearing loss claims at Jefferies Solicitors, particularly due to the rise in industrial work.”

BRITISH SAFETY COUNCIL APPOINTS MICHAEL ROBINSON


AS CHIEF EXECUTIVE Lynda Armstrong OBE, chair of trustees of the British Safety Council, has announced the appointment of Mike Robinson as the organisation’s new chief executive.


Lynda Armstrong said: “The trustees congratulate Mike on his appointment and look forward to working with him and his colleagues to help the British Safety Council deliver sustained business success and help achieve our vision that no one should be injured or made ill at work.


“We believe Mike’s leadership style and experience will be of great value to the British Safety Council at this stage of its journey and will be a real asset in leading the organisation through a comprehensive programme
