HEART OF OAK

Irish Further Education and Training Authority SOLAS looked towards Moduleo for a flooring solution that would reflect their modern approach and offer ease of cleaning, hygiene and durability in their staff restaurant. Tomorrow’s Flooring reports.

Ireland’s brand-new Further Education and Training Authority, SOLAS, has upgraded its state-of-the-art facilities in Dublin, opting for Moduleo flooring as a result of its outstanding features. The luxury vinyl flooring manufacturer’s Verdon Oak 24870 was chosen for the staff restaurant and break-out areas.

SOLAS is responsible for funding, planning and co-ordinating training and further education programmes. It is a forward thinking authority, which aims to be responsive to the needs of learners and the requirements of a changing economy. It was important that the overall design of their headquarters should reflect their modern outlook, and this has been achieved. The elegant flooring perfectly complements the dark graphite walls with white furnishings and accents of neon brights to achieve a contemporary, fresh aesthetic.

Designers cited Verdon Oak’s timeless style, together with the fact it’s easy- to-clean, durable and scuff-resistant as the big selling point for specifying the LVT. Ray O’Connor of Moduleo’s Irish agents ROC Agencies, who worked alongside RKD Architects on the project,

commented: “Hygiene was imperative for the Solas project, but we didn’t want to compromise on quality and luxury; and after looking at all of our options Moduleo was the unanimous choice.”

“As we opted for Click installation, the flooring was incredibly easy to fit, and didn’t require any timely preparation beforehand. What’s more, it comes with a 20-year guarantee so the customers get the peace-of-mind that their flooring is of the finest quality and will last – particularly in areas, like this, which experience such high levels of footfall.”

The Verdon Oak 24870 flooring is from Moduleo’s Transform range and features a hard-wearing top layer; making it particularly ideal for commercial use. David Bigland, Managing Director at Moduleo UK and Eire explained: “Our Transform flooring has been a real success in commercial environments, particularly in spaces such as restaurants or hotels, where hygiene is paramount. We’re delighted that such a fantastic new facility is benefiting from our designs, and the finished product looks sensational.”

Ray concluded: “All parties involved in the SOLAS project are extremely pleased with the quality of finish

of the Moduleo flooring – and we would definitely recommend it for any commercial environment.”

Verdon Oak 24870 captures the natural look of oak as each individual vinyl floor tile has its own personality, recreating the subtle textures of wood grains. Thanks to extra long sizes pattern repeats are avoided, giving a natural feeling to the flooring and a truly unique look. The printing technique uses a very fine dot screenallowing for razor-sharp designs, so it’s almost impossible to tell the difference from the real hardwood.

Moduleo produces a diverse range of vinyl floor tiles in a large selection of colours and finishes and available in both a traditional LVT construction and a simple-to-install Click system which offers added flexibility.
