GRADUS SUPPLIES UNIVERSITY OF CENTRAL LANCASHIRE
Contract interior specialist Gradus has supplied stair edgings and barrier matting to a University of Central Lancashire building, in Preston.
The University of Central Lancashire’s Darwin Building has a 450 capacity lecture theatre that is predominantly used by the School of Psychology, while the foyer area is sometimes used as an exhibition area for conferences.
Gradus products were supplied throughout the Darwin Building. GXT51 stair edgings with interior inserts in Snowdrift (white) were installed on the main staircase. Boulevard 6000 barrier matting was also installed at the main entrance of the building,
GXT51 is rake back, single channel stair nosing profile with a 5mm gauge, and is ideal for use with carpet or resilient flooring with bevelled underlay in heavy use
areas. The white inserts also provide a solid band of colour that delivers visual contrast with the surrounding flooring and the recommended 30 points difference in Light Reflectance Value (LRV), in line with guidelines in BS8300:2009+A1:2010 and Approved Document M of The Buildings Regulation 2000. This helps to reduce the risk of slips, trips and falls for both students and staff.

Boulevard 6000 barrier matting incorporates a heavy scraper for optimum dirt removal to significantly reduce the amount of dirt and moisture tracked into a building. It also has a patterned design to disguise the effects of soiling.

David Griffiths from the University of Central Lancashire commented: “The safety of our students is paramount and it is therefore important that we work
with manufacturers who understand the demands of educational establishments. We have a long-standing relationship with Gradus, who have always proven that they can help us to create visually appealing and comfortable facilities for both students and staff through their wide range of products.”
Jason Judges, Area Sales Manager at Gradus, concluded: “The entrance to the Darwin Building sees heavy traffic on a daily basis, so it was crucial to specify fit-for-purpose barrier matting and stair edgings. Our XT stair edgings and Boulevard 6000 barrier matting is ideal for use in the education sector, as the products help to protect students and staff against slips and falls.”
