GETTING INTO THE ZONE
David Bigland, MD of Moduleo UK and Eire, comments on the zoning trend and how contractors can achieve a bespoke solution with speed and ease.
They say it’s easy when you know how. This is a phrase I like to use when discussing the latest flooring technologies and the importance of taking the time to find out how to achieve great results with new products on the market.
An emerging trend that this applies to perfectly is ‘zoning’ – the art of creating multiple floors in one room or space.
Ideal in commercial and residential installations alike, zoning allows contractors to utilise lots of different shades, shapes and collections to really make the most of the flooring canvas.
WHERE TO ZONE? By utilising the latest technology in floor manufacturing, commercial settings, such as restaurants, hotels and office spaces, as well as domestic dwellings, can easily be divided with a mixture of textures and colour to create identity and purpose.
A prime candidate for zoning is the hotel lobby. When we consider that there is often a check-in desk, a casual place for sitting and reading the paper, perhaps even a bar or luggage area, zoning can not only give the impression of more space, but a sense of purpose and direction for the area.
When done properly, zoning also means that interior designers can often install minimalist fixtures and fittings.
NO NEED TO
COMPROMISE Zoning can also be particularly effective in restaurants and bars that use the same space for multiple purposes, such as drinking, dancing and eating.

of colour textures and patterns, including hexagons, chevrons, triangles and diamonds, as well as herringbone and tiles.
Quick and simple to install, the products can be combined with traditional ‘plank’ wood- effect vinyl for an ultra-bespoke finish, which gives
Nowadays venues are doing all they can to encourage patrons to remain in their establishment. Casual seating areas for drinks and catching up and a separate area for eating, can easily be created using different patterns to differentiate from the rest of the space.
The beauty of luxury vinyl products, like those available from Moduleo, means their heavy-duty characteristics make them ideal for entrances, lobbies and high density footfall areas.
Furthermore, these properties also lend themselves well in settings such as bars, hotels and retail outlets, where contractors must prioritise the technical integrity of the floor finish as well as a statement style.
ZONES IN THE HOME Zoning can be equally effective in residential settings. Whether it’s creating a dedicated place for dining, or establishing an allocated space in the kitchen for entertaining, zoning floor space can separate key areas while retaining consistent flow.
We’re increasingly seeing more demand for this trend at Moduleo, which is one of the reasons we developed our Moods collection.
This encourages the conception of unique floor designs through a range
customers the chance to reflect their individual style.
TOP TIPS For contractors interested in exploring their inner designer, I’d advise logging on to our Moods room visualiser on the Moduleo website, which can be a great way to bring ideas to
life.It gives a great view of what a pattern will look like in-situ and can be printed off to create a prospective portfolio of the various options available to customers.
In addition to the Moods visualiser, we also offer specialist Moods collection training courses for contractors interested in learning more about how to install the different elements. Our next courses are running on 19 May and 30 June, with all information available on our website.
It’s encouraging to see so many people maximising on the geometric trend sweeping the nation. But while choice is undoubtedly a great thing, it’s important to not get overwhelmed by the endless possibilities and really take the time to get to know the various shapes, colours and textures available.
Thanks to tools like the visualiser, contractors are free to deliver the very best in stylish floors with the required knowledge, expertise and inspiration to get into the zone.
