OPENING DOORS OF OPPORTUNITY FOR 100 YEARS

This past year we engaged in five activities to celebrate the one hundred-year anniversary of Emily Griffith Technical College. The overall goal of the program was to increase awareness of both Emily Griffith Technical College and Emily Griffith Foundation. Each activity had a specific focus and desired outcome.

- Our efforts to find and re-involve our graduates resulted in 9000 alumni who we are now communicating with and engaging in the College’s activities.

- The Party of the Century was a giant success, bringing together new and old supporters of the Foundation. We will do it again in 100 years!

- Our annual Legacy of Learning Breakfast honored Elaine Berman, The Denver Post and posthumously Tom Gamel for their commitment to life-long learning. And the event raised over $30,000 for the Foundation.

- For All Who Wish to Learn was the phrase Emily Griffith frequently used to describe her educational experiment, and it was the title for the successful five-month exhibition at the Denver Public Library. Visitors were surrounded by the amazing history of the first adult vocational school in America.

- Touching Tomorrow, the symposium in Vail, brought together corporate, education and student thought leaders from across the United States to discuss the future of workforce education. The resulting “special report” is in its final edit and will be distributed to policy and political leaders in our City, our State and Washington, D.C.

The resounding success of our 100 Year Celebration could not have been possible without the help of these friends and supporters:

Susan Kiely, Chair of the 100 Year Celebration, the entire Board of Emily Griffith Foundation, particularly Pam Hovik, Heather Grady, Cristina Sloan, Serena Vandenberg, Lindsay Sandham, Lisa Barratt, the Denver Post, Entravision, CBS Channel 4, 5280 Magazine, the Vail Symposium, Colorado History Museum, Howard Nobel, Ed and Callae Rounds, Linda Campbell, the Van Heyst Group, the Kauffman Foundation, the Lumina Foundation, Gary Community Investments, Denver Community Credit Union, Westerra Credit Union, Denver Public Library, Richard and Pam Bard, Schomp Automotive, DaVita, Curious Theater, Antlers Resort, Lannie Garret, Emily Griffith Technical College staff particularly Christine Patoff and Jeff Barratt.
