We’re working together to tackle anti-social behaviour

NORTH Merchiston Residents association in Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, fed up with the high amount of anti-social behaviour in their neighbourhood, called a meeting to discuss a solution to the problems. Off the back of the meeting Dunedin Canmore, Police Scotland and the City of Edinburgh Council have created a plan to introduce a consistent presence from housing officers and police in Fountainbridge. This means issues of anti-social behaviour can be dealt with before they escalate and start having a negative effect on the area. Dunedin Canmore tenant and treasurer of the North Merchiston Residents Association, Sheila Duff, from Fountainbridge, dropped by to see housing officers and police when they were out in the community. She said: “We had the big meeting in October when things had got really bad. Since then the police and Dunedin Canmore have really put effort into working with the people who live here.

“I think it’s great and it will hopefully make things a lot better.” PC Kirstie Mauchline, said: “As a community officer it’s important to work with local partners to bring the best service possible to the people who live in Fountainbridge. We want to look at alternative routes from criminal prosecution and to deal with issues that may not be criminal but still cause residents distress.”

Housing Director Alan Glasgow said: “This is a brilliant example of communities and housing officers working together to create a safe and pleasant place to stay for everyone who lives there.

“There will be more housing officers visiting all our communities over the coming months to talk to you about your concerns and issues and how we can work together to overcome them.” If you’re being affected by neighbour disturbances, talk to your housing officer or call 101 to speak to the police for non-emergencies.
