New £50 buffer fund will be a real lifeline

IF YOU’RE worried about bank charges we can help.

We can help you open a fee-free bank account, which means you won’t be charged if a Direct Debit or standing order fails.

Now, we can offer tenants with one of these accounts and who pay their rent by Direct Debit another £50 ‘buffer’ – which is similar to an overdraft. That £50 interest-free credit could be a lifeline for tenants who need a bit of financial support – or who are worried about opening a bank account. Direct Debit is a quicker, easier and more secure way to pay rent – and the new fund will support tenants who have a fee-free bank account and pay their rent that way.

Dunedin Canmore Director of Housing Alan Glasgow, said: “Our £50 ‘buffer

fund’ is a great way of helping people who may be struggling to make ends meet.

This affordable credit is an extra support for tenants who have a fee-free bank account.

“We’ll also offer tenants financial advice – including expert budgeting advice – if they set up the account.

“This is another important way we’re helping people cope with welfare reform.” The scheme is a partnership between Wheatley Group – Dunedin Canmore’s parent organisation – and Pollok Credit Union.

Tenants can use the interest-free £50 at any time, up to once a year. For more on fee-free bank accounts and on the £50 ‘buffer fund’, talk to your housing officer, phone us on 0131 478 8888.
