Your career can start right here
Apprenticeship with us can really take you places I
F any young people are looking for a step on the career ladder then we have just the job.
We’re recruiting now for our Modern Apprenticeship programme. If you’re between 16 and 19 and have
recently left, or are about to leave school, it could be a good move if you’re looking to earn while you learn. Successful candidates will work across Wheatley Group - YourPlace’s parent organisation - in a range of business areas including housing, support services and care. You’ll get paid work experience and
training in the area you choose, as well as an SVQ qualification. You’ll also get a generous holiday
allowance and holiday package - and help to find a full-time job when your apprenticeship finishes. Apprenticeships last for two years. You don’t need any formal qualifications to apply. YourPlace customer Ross Carrigan,
24, from Balornock, started as an apprentice in 2009, and now works as a transactional officer based in our Transactional Hub.

best part is visiting my patch in the North East of Glasgow and helping customers with any issues they are having.
I think Wheatley is a brilliant organisation to work for. We get excellent benefits and the organisation rewards people who work hard.
He said: “I did my apprenticeship in GHA’s Milnbank office. Staff were really supportive and I learned a lot. Through the apprenticeship scheme there was plenty of training, both on the job and on courses, and I also gained a CIH qualification. “I then worked briefly in an administrative role before landing a full- time job dealing with accounts payable. “I’m really enjoying my job and the
responsibility that goes with it. “Young people should grab the opportunity of an apprenticeship with both hands. “It’s a great place to work. It’s a big
organisation and there is lots of support whenever you need it.” Since our Modern Apprenticeship
programme started in 2009, we’ve taken on 196 apprentices. More than 90% of apprentices have achieved their qualification - and 100% of the young people who complete the programme achieved their qualification. YourPlace Service Improvement Lead Susan Mackie said: “We always want to increase opportunities for young people in our communities.
“Our apprenticeship
programme can help young people take the first steps in a rewarding career.”

YourPlace Board since 2010 and was a member of the South West Housing Partnership committee and the Owners’ Forum. Alison McDiarmid, Factoring Services

Fire can be too close for comfort
IS your close full of bags of rubbish or prams and bikes? If it is, it could be a fire hazard. The close may be the only means of
escape in a fire, so the escape route needs to be kept clear. If unwanted household items are being left in the common close, or people are using it for storage for bikes or prams this could hinder your escape. There shouldn’t be any items stored in the common areas. Even the smallest bag of rubbish can create enough smoke to fill a building very quickly. YourPlace works in partnership with Scottish Fire and Rescue who offer a FREE Home Fire Safety Visit. They will help you spot possible fire hazards. Call 0800 0731 999 to book an appointment now.
