AWGA results are in for 2016: These courses are real GEMS
n BY ROBYN KNOLL
Tallies from the over 6,000 GEM surveys received by the Arizona Women’s Golf Association last year are complete, and the golf courses that provided the best golf experiences for women in Arizona have been identified for 2016. The GEM program (“Golf Endorsed by Members”) allows AWGA members to provide feedback on courses after they post a score. Survey questions cover the players’ impressions of clubhouse and facilities; playability for women; customer service; food and beverage; and merchandise availability. A data-driven calculation shows which courses are excelling in the overall attention that they give to women’s golf. This year was an especially tough year to narrow down winners because of the high number of extraordinary scores. If you know women looking for a great golf experiences in Arizona, point them toward one of these GEM courses! n

of 6-under-par 210 for the three-day championship that honors Winter, a legendary instructor from Arizona. Dunne follows in the footsteps of fellow SMU teammate Kenzie Wright, who captured this championship in 2015. “I played solid all day even
with an unplayable lie and hitting into the water I just kept telling myself to come back fighting,” said Dunne, who closed with a 68. “I was able to make six birdies so I was putting really well.”
Dunne, in her fourth Silver
Belle appearance, said she keeps coming back because the tournament is at a perfect time between seasons and is an excellent way to say see the results of her practice. She promised to return to defend her title in 2017, when the event will again be held at Talking Stick. “The best part of the match
was the playoff. Haley was playing such good golf – we both were,” Dunne said. “To make that birdie putt to win it was the coolest feeling.” n
