When it comes to 2016, expect more options from AGA

at The Wigwam Gold Course. It’s a bowl game for collegiate golfers, each carrying a PING golf bag emblazoned with the name of a fallen soldier while playing in their honor. If you haven’t attended the

Patriot All-America, you have missed something truly special as it goes far beyond a golf event. As much as we are celebrating Braden Thornberry’s win this year, he will tell you it’s so much more impactful having 84 of our nation’s heroes honored for their sacrifice. Make it a point to join us next December for the sixth edition. Following on that theme, the AGA’s

Foundation along with the Friends of Freedom Foundation are hosting a fund-raising event April 19th to support Friends’ veterans projects, the Navy SEAL Foundation, Snowball Express and Fighter Country Partnership (a Luke AFB support group). or the last five years, the Arizona Golf Association has closed the year out with the Patriot All-America Invitational

handicap flights. In addition, we’re introducing expanded Member Days — casual golf outings for all members and their guests, designed to bring golfers and courses together. This will give many Arizona golfers chances to play new courses in a fun atmosphere with prizes where the competition is solely between the golfer and the course. Please try one, and bring a friend. We’ll all enjoy the experience. Much more is coming in 2016 with

the changes in rules and handicapping just the beginning. Several new options for golfers, apps to events, will follow as the year progresses, beginning with the USGA’s Annual Meeting this month. Look for the follow up in our next issue of AZ GOLF Insider. And finally, a few suggestions to get

your 2016 golfing machine in gear: Josh Evenson’s Links to St. Andrews: Love Letters to the Home of Golf, which is profiled inside; Butch Harmon’s About Golf video with stories and insights that will amaze; new books Getting to Scratch by Louis M. Greer, and Anatomy of Greatness by Brandel Chamblee; and for those who really, really love the game: Principles Behind the Rules of Golf by Richard S. Tufts. n
