Around Kingswear BY MIKE TREVORROW

Get yer plants out... Friends of St Thomas’ Church will be

running a Plant and Herb stall at the Kingswear Family Fun Day. There will be a wonderful selection of small plants and herbs to purchase which will provide colourful displays in your garden. Also on sale will be decorated plant pots and pre-loved gardening books and tools! FRoST would be delighted to receive donations of plant cuttings to sell on the day – so please do bring these along at 12 noon if you have any to spare. Please note that the new revised date for the Fun Day is Sunday September 8th.

Oops ...date change.

Sorry! Due to a failure of consulting a tide table correctly, or possibly the correct tide table the date of the Kingswear Family Fun Day has now been changed to Sunday September 8th, so please do put that in your diaries or on your calendars and don’t turn-up in June as originally thought. Because there will be rowing events at this year’s Fun Day we have to make sure the tides are with us, not to mention the duck race – those little yellow

plastic chappies don’t like the mud up ‘em you know. I will be telling you more about this event in future pages so keep your eyes skimmed for further and better particulars, as the lawyers have it.

Doing pennants ... Preparations for Mayflower

400, which is due to take place in Dartmouth in 2020, are well underway and the number of pennants completed has now tipped the 3000 mark!

for councillorship and resignations have been received from existing councillors. Resigning are councillors Henshall, Parkes, Payne, Searle and Trevorrow. Because the number of applications does not exceed 10 there does not need to be an election and so far only 8 people have come forward, so there is room for two co-optees. The new council, as far as I know

at present, will be Lynne Maurer as chair, Jonathan Hawkins, Hector Newcombe, Edward Jones, Brian Longland, Gary Webber, Paul Burnell and Peter Pudduck. This looks a little heavy on the male side but I am sure Lynne Maurer will be able to keep them on the straight and narrow. The bollards on Fore St in

Stitchers from Dartmouth and Kingswear celebrated their progress with a sumptuous afternoon tea at The Royal Castle Hotel to recharge their batteries for the next few thousand. Dartmouth is going to look amazing! Project Coordinator Rose

Williams was delighted to report that pennants have been received from Ireland and as far away as New England in The USA . It has truly become a global initiative! So....if you would like to be

involved either by sewing or donating suitable fabric of red , white and blue please contact Rose through the Flavel. Every little helps!

Council matters As many of you will be aware the

parish council as it is constituted comes to the end of its term of office at the end of April. Applications have been received

Kingswear are due for replacement very soon, hopefully by the middle of May. These have needed doing for some time but people keep knocking them over! Information will be distributed soon about the parking situation in the village. A huge amount of work has gone in to considering this vexed problem, your comments have all been duly noted and an outline scheme has been created. This needs to go for further public comment before decisions can be made. The Annual Parish Meeting is to take place on Monday May 20th. It starts at 6:30pm and takes place in the village hall. If you have comments to make about any parish issues please do come along to air your views. Matters of immediate importance such as the parking situation can be discussed. Wine and nibbles will be enjoyed after the meeting so it is hoped that it becomes a social event as well as a discussion opportunity.
