Business News President’s Focus

This month’s President’s Focus is by the new president of Burton and District Chamber of Commerce, Nik Hardy (pictured). Nik is the founder of local business Hardy Signs, which is celebrating 25 years in business. In this column, he urges other businesses to make the most of celebrating their successes.

I feel that a key element to any successful business is time management - it’s almost a cliché to say that there are not enough hours in the day to achieve what you wish. For this reason, the aspects of a business that appear more ‘indulgent’ are those that are more often sacrificed but the benefits of taking time out to recognise and celebrate your successes can be just as valuable. This month marks the 25th year in

business for Hardy Signs, the company that I founded back in 1993 and, in 2018, we have organised a number of events in order to mark the occasion. It has been through these events, our social media campaigns, marketing and online presence that I’m pleased to say that our engagement, with our clients, our friends in business and our staff, has strengthened considerably. Taking time out to recognise when and

where your company has been successful may seem self-indulgent, but, when done properly, can be hugely beneficial to any organisation. Our chamber has continuously grown in the last few years, with 12 per cent growth registered in membership numbers in 2017. I am committed to continue that

upward trend and to drive local economic growth. With this in mind I will be encouraging our members and potential members to be proud of their successes and to not be reluctant to share their pride with their own clients and staff alike. Our business community is as

valuable locally as it is on a nationwide scale. At Hardy Signs we design, manufacture and install signage for companies in all over the UK. Our roots and manufacturing base is

here in the heart of Burton and we employ 25 staff who also live locally. As a company we would advocate utilising those attributes that you are proud of to demonstrate extra credibility to your potential clients. Your awards, your prestigious clients, your successful projects and your years of experience are all included in these attributes. As I begin my term as president I am

very much looking forward to hearing more and more of the many success stories that continue to make our region thrive, we’ll not miss the opportunity to encourage fellow members to engage across the Chamber districts and we’ll be sure to spread the message as Hardy Signs enters the next 25 years of business.
