BLUESTREAM WINS ONEGAS SUBSEA DEAL

STRONG OPPORTUNITIES FOR REGIONAL SUPPLY CHAIN AS NORTH SEA SECTOR RETURNS, SAYS ENGINEERS

REGIONAL offshore oil and gas services have never been better placed with the technical expertise and experience to support a returning North Sea sector, says Joe Orrell, Managing Director at engineering services firm RED Engineering.

UTM CONSULTANTS LTD AIMS TO BUILD SUBSEA TALENT NETWORK

A new UK based company which aims to address the immediate and long-term skills needs of the global marine energy sector, has launched.

Headquartered in Cornwall, south-west England, UTM Consultants Ltd will leverage its extensive network together with its industry experience to source and supply the manpower solutions required to deliver complex ROV, survey, inspection, repair and maintenance projects to the oil and gas, renewable, hydrographic, marine, power and telecommunications sectors.

Founded by Managing Director, Richard Tozer and Operations Director, Alex Meeks, the privately funded company will specialise in the acquisition and deployment of highly qualified and accomplished professionals from a range of technical and engineering disciplines.

Prior to setting up UTM, Richard ran leading marine recruitment services company, GOSS Consultants before selling the business in 2013. Alex has extensive experience in sourcing personnel for the offshore sector, having previously led the survey division of an international survey and ROV recruitment firm.

The company, has also established an onshore support team to provide help and guidance to contractors throughout their career.

Bluestream Offshore, one of the leading subsea service providers to the oil and gas industry, is pleased to announce that it has secured a five year contract plus two year extension with ONEgas, the combined business unit of Shell UK and the Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM) for the gas production on the Southern North Sea. The contract is a so-called ROV Subsea Structural Inspection Services Contract and includes in total 69 of ONEgas’s offshore platforms and subsea completions in the Southern North Sea, UK and Dutch sectors. Work commenced immediately, after signing the contract on May 24, 2017.

The contract covers subsea inspection services for which Bluestream teamed-up with Vroon Offshore Services in Den Helder as her maritime partner for supplying the offshore support vessel during the entire contract duration. For the 2017 campaign Bluestream is using DP2 vessel VOS Sugar fitted with Bluestream’s own inspection system and fully equipped Inspection Class Seaeye Tiger ROV and the Compact Work Class Seaeye Cougar XT ROV to perform the subsea structural inspections. Each yearly campaign will last around 45 days and will be executed by a team of 20 people, on shore as well as offshore.

“We are proud that ONEgas awarded Bluestream Offshore this subsea inspection contract for the ONEGas installations. This is the biggest contract in the Bluestream history and we, together with our partner Vroon, look forward to cooperating closely with our client to make this project a success,” says Adriaen Winckers, responsible for Business Development at Den Helder based Bluestream. He adds: “This major contract is testament to the professionalism of our organization. Over the last few years Bluestream has worked hard to optimize the operational excellence of his inspection department based on strong core values. And for this reason, it is an honor that ONEgas gives us the opportunity to demonstrate that we are a reliable partner, securing a safe and efficient operation.”

“There’s no doubt that as oil and gas reserves become more difficult and costly to recover, the demands for innovative technology have never been greater.

“But it also provides an opportunity for North East among other companies who have grown-up on the back of innovation and engineering excellence to show their capabilities as the sector returns.

“Investment in new technologies and engineering talent alongside experience gained working around the world for international operators, has secured a strong position and reputation for locally based oil and gas service expertise and knowledge.”

Firms such as RED Engineering, which is based in Hexham, Northumberland, are well placed says Joe Orrell to support the development of the new production methods that are required to secure the reserves that are increasingly being found in ‘small pools’.

“We are seeing strong opportunities for the North East’s supply chain in areas such as subsea vehicles, pipe and cable lay systems, subsea infrastructure and hardware while other knowledge-intensive services remain strong.'

The supply chain in the North East has long been an integral part of the North Sea success story. There are now 50 companies employing 15,000 people who generate more than £1.5bn per year in revenue for the regional economy.

Established in 2008, RED Engineering (formerly RED Marine) has rebranded in a move that reflects growing demand for its expertise beyond the offshore oil and gas marine sector. Services include consultancy, supply of bespoke equipment and qualification testing. More at: www.redengineers.co.uk
