HEALTH & BEAUTY Celebrating 25 years at
Eat Happy, Be Happy
No matter where you go these days, be it the park with the kids, out to eat with friends or even on social media, you see and hear people from all walks of life talking about how happy they are thanks to Slimming World.
From syns to speed foods, health extras to extra easy, the simple art of Slimming World’s food optimisation has helped change lives through weight loss – and most importantly, maintain their healthy, happy target weight.
Before 50-year-old Kate joined Slimming World, she was prone to chest infections, bronchitis and pneumonia and would get out of breath walking to the shops or up the stairs.
As a teaching assistant, she has a busy work life running around after the kids all day and was self- conscious around her colleagues, constantly covering her lumps and bumps in baggy clothes.
Others began to notice her weight creeping up on her and, although light-hearted, their comments stuck in her head and pushed her on to doing something about it. Kate tried, unsuccessfully, to lose weight at home by herself. She’d heard about Slimming World before but never really understood the concept of how eating so much could help you lose weight. After a gentle nudge from her friends, she joined them at the Wath Slimming World group in March 2015 and set a target to lose three stone. At Slimming World, the group get together to empower each other towards their realistic goals. While some set out to shed half their body weight, others like Kate set smaller, manageable goals to help them feel better in their bodies.
After joining the group, Kate was shocked to know that nothing is banned on the Slimming World plan – she could still enjoy all
her favourite foods like chicken and tomato pasta and a roast dinner with her family.
Unlike other ‘diets’ which restrict you to calorie counting, food weighing and monitoring every mouthful, Slimming World puts you in control of what you eat based on free foods such as vegetables, meat and even pasta so you’ll never go hungry or bored of lettuce again. You can even find syn-free recipes for lasagna, curry and BBQ pulled pork. Thanks to her new found knowledge, Kate started planning meals in advance, saving her pounds in the trolley as well as her waistline. And she could still enjoy a treat or two per day with her allocated syns. Kate has since been at her target weight for 16 months and has dropped from a size 18 to a 12, wearing clothes she never dreamed of; she’s got more energy, loves walking and hasn’t struggled with her chest since. She is now helping others reach their targets as the consultant at Monday’s Montgomery Hall group. If, like Kate, you want to make the first steps towards a happier, healthier you, see how Slimming World can make a different to your life.
