Mullally, fast-rising neo-soul superstar and ex Access To Music Student straight outta Norwich has barely stopped since graduating. Winner of Best Solo Male at the Unsigned Music Awards 2016 and runner-up in the MOBO UnSung Awards 2016, he recently played SXSW and is prepping his debut album as we speak. Expect great things from this hugely talented chap, and say you saw him first when he plays Sonic Youths’ night at Norwich Arts Centre this month. I spoke to him about Norwich’s music scene and who he met at the MOBO’s.

ou started playing music with your best friends when you


were 16. Was it a case of immediately recognising that this was something you wanted to do? To be honest, at first we just loved doing it. We were pretty terrible too - I remember playing at a friend’s birthday party for our first official gig and we can’t have sounded good! I was about 18 when I fully realised that music was what I wanted to do full time. When did you start writing songs of your own? I guess I’ve always jammed and freestyled, and we had a couple of tunes as a band back in the day, but I properly began writing


songs in the summer of 2015. Tat’s when I started to really create and put thought into what I was doing. Has Norwich’s supportive music scene helped you to get where you are now? Absolutely. I’ve gigged in every corner of Norfolk. Not only did the bigger shows likes Norwich Rocks and the Arts Centre and the Waterfront help, but playing to no-one in Te Dog And Bucket in a sleepy corner of North Norfolk also helped hugely as it showed me that giggin’ ain’t all that glam. I saw you perform at Access To Music’s Artist Development Programme showcase a couple years ago, and I have to say I picked you out in my head as the one person destined to make it. Do you have a
